There is nothing quite like it, and although the world has been trying since the discovery of méthode champenoise, no other region can come close to the powerful, intricate complexity of Champagne.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Floral and mineral, with pithy citrus leading the aromatic intensity. This wine feels as though its compiled of so many parts yet they're all moving together in will choreographed concert. The acid comes out strong but doesn't fade, giving the wine structural integrity and drive. There is real chalky minerality, which we love to see in Champagne. The shape of the wine is quite pillow and round, its at once creamy and prickly. There's a some back palate grapefruit and cherry pit (presumably from the 10% pinot noir) that rounds out the wine well. This is dually classic and exceptional - a Christmas day must have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Guy Larmandier represents the artisanal side of Champagne production, where small-batch craftsmanship meets generations of winemaking expertise. As a grower-producer (récoltant-manipulant), they control every aspect from vineyard to bottle, allowing for meticulous attention to detail that larger houses simply cannot match. Their Premier Cru status indicates access to some of Champagne's finest vineyard sites, while their cult following stems from consistently producing wines that express true terroir character rather than following commercial formulas.

The chalky minerality comes directly from Champagne's unique geological foundation - ancient seabeds rich in belemnite chalk that provide exceptional drainage while retaining moisture for the vines. This chalk doesn't just influence the wine's flavour; it creates the backbone that allows the wine to age gracefully and develop complexity. The mineral character acts as a counterpoint to the wine's creamy texture, creating that distinctive tension between richness and precision that separates great Champagne from mere sparkling wine.

The small percentage of Pinot Noir adds crucial structural elements and flavour complexity that pure Chardonnay cannot achieve alone. Those cherry pit notes and back-palate depth come from the red grape's natural tannins and fruit character, even when vinified as white wine. This blend creates what Champagne makers call 'architecture' - the Pinot Noir provides the frame while Chardonnay supplies the elegance, resulting in a wine that's both substantial enough for food pairing and refined enough for contemplative sipping.

Non-Vintage (NV) Champagne represents the house style at its most consistent and accessible, blending wines from multiple years to achieve a signature flavour profile. Master blenders use reserve wines from previous harvests to create complexity that single vintages often lack, while maintaining the producer's distinctive character year after year. For Guy Larmandier, this approach allows them to showcase their terroir and winemaking philosophy without the constraints of a single harvest's weather conditions.

This apparent contradiction reveals the sophisticated texture work that defines quality Champagne production. The creaminess comes from extended lees contact during the traditional method's second fermentation, where dead yeast cells create rich, mousse-like proteins that coat the palate. Meanwhile, the prickly sensation stems from fine, persistent bubbles and vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh and lively. This textural duality prevents the wine from becoming heavy despite its full-bodied nature, creating an engaging drinking experience that evolves with each sip.
