Why do we love this wine?

Today, the family owned te Pā winery covers 500 hectares, and exports their vinos to wine lovers in the States and the UK, and make one of the best versions of Kiwi rosé going. Their wines are winning awards all over the place, and this little pink number should belongs in the fridges of rosé aficionados the world over. Classic raspberries, strawberries and cream, richer than an Aussie style but still manages to be precise and delicate. That's a winner to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Te Pā Rosé strikes a beautiful balance between richness and precision that sets it apart from the lighter, more mineral-driven Australian rosé style. While maintaining the delicate character rosé lovers expect, this Marlborough expression offers more body and depth with its classic raspberries, strawberries and cream profile. This richer approach reflects New Zealand's cooler climate and longer growing season, which allows for more flavour development while preserving the wine's elegant structure.

The 93 points from Wine Orbit reflects te Pā's mastery of rosé production in Marlborough's unique terroir. The wine's success lies in its ability to deliver complexity without sacrificing the refreshing qualities that define great rosé. The combination of strawberry fruit, subtle spice notes, and lavender aromatics creates a sophisticated drinking experience that showcases why New Zealand rosé is gaining international recognition alongside the country's famous Sauvignon Blanc.

The wine's crisp, dry style and light body make it incredibly versatile for food pairing, particularly with dishes that complement its strawberry and spice characteristics. Think fresh seafood like salmon or prawns, Mediterranean cuisine with herbs that echo the lavender notes, or even spiced Asian dishes where the wine's precision can cut through rich flavours. The creamy texture also pairs beautifully with soft cheeses and charcuterie, making it perfect for entertaining.

Marlborough's cool maritime climate and long sunshine hours create ideal conditions for producing rosé with both intensity and finesse. The region's significant diurnal temperature variation helps preserve the wine's natural acidity while allowing the development of the complex strawberry and spice flavours. This climate produces rosé with more structure than warmer regions, explaining why te Pā's version offers that distinctive richness while maintaining the crisp, refreshing character that makes it so food-friendly.

Serve this rosé well-chilled at 8-10°C to showcase its delicate aromatics and crisp acidity - the lavender and strawberry notes really shine at this temperature. As a 2023 vintage, it's designed for immediate enjoyment while the fruit flavours are at their peak freshness. Store bottles in a cool, dark place and consume within 2-3 years to experience the wine as the winemaker intended, though its quality suggests it could develop interesting secondary characteristics with careful cellaring.
