Why do we love this wine?

This winemaker is a true legend of the Australian wine industry, having been head winemaker at one of Australia's top wineries for over 20 years and spending many, many more vintages in the heart of the Barossa. All of that excellence has certainly driven a whole lot of quality, and not just with shiraz. This rosé is a prime example of skill; balancing freshness and intrigue all in one neat package. A little touch of creaminess is apparent in the style, which makes it all the more Provence-like. Aromas of strawberries and cherries are abundant, with white peach and lemon on the finish. We’re pretty confident there will be a few of you coming back for more of this special drop.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This rosé showcases the cooler climate advantages of the Adelaide Hills, where the elevation and maritime influence create ideal conditions for retaining natural acidity while developing complex fruit flavours. The winemaker's Barossa Valley heritage brings a unique perspective to rosé production, incorporating techniques typically reserved for premium reds to create the subtle creaminess that gives this wine its Provence-like character. The combination of cool-climate precision with warm-climate winemaking expertise results in a rosé that's both refreshing and sophisticated.

The creamy mouthfeel likely comes from extended lees contact or partial malolactic fermentation, techniques more commonly associated with premium white wine production. This textural element transforms the wine from a simple summer sipper into a more versatile food wine that can handle richer dishes like salmon, creamy pasta, or even light poultry. The creaminess also helps integrate the bright fruit flavours with the crisp acidity, creating a more complex and satisfying drinking experience that works beautifully with Mediterranean cuisine.

The 2022 vintage in Adelaide Hills was characterised by excellent growing conditions that produced wines with outstanding balance between ripeness and acidity. While most rosés are designed for immediate consumption, this wine's 94-point rating and structured winemaking suggest it has the complexity to develop beautifully over the next 2-3 years. The vintage's natural acidity will help preserve the fresh fruit characters while allowing the subtle creamy elements to integrate further, making it equally enjoyable now or with some cellaring.

Given the Barossa Valley connection and the flavour profile of strawberries, cherries, and white peach, this rosé is likely crafted from premium red grape varieties such as Grenache, Pinot Noir, or possibly Sangiovese. The winemaker's expertise with shiraz suggests they understand how to extract just the right amount of colour and tannin from red grape skins to achieve the perfect rosé hue. The specific varietal blend remains part of the mystery, but the resulting wine demonstrates how skilled winemaking can transform any quality red grape into exceptional rosé.

Serve this rosé well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight its crisp, dry character while allowing the creamy texture to provide balance on the palate. The wine's complexity means it benefits from using proper wine glasses rather than casual tumblers, as the aromatics of strawberry, cherry, and citrus need room to develop. Given its 94-point rating and sophisticated structure, this rosé deserves the same attention you'd give to a premium white wine, making it perfect for special occasions or when you want to elevate a casual meal.
