Summer is sticking around with this one; peaches, grapefruits, strawberries, raspberries. The fruit aromatics are so pronounced and so varietal - a dry, delicious warm weather go-to.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Beautifully light salmon pink in colour, with some little flashes of orange throughout. The wine has sappy acidity that puckers the mouth. It's racy and packed full of energy. The mouthfeel is quite creamy and full, though, which offsets that initial bit of zip nicely. Pulpy fruit and a little bit of grip, length and drive. This is as reliable as rosé gets - stock up, this thing will never miss a beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Barossa rosé showcases the unique terroir of one of Australia's most celebrated wine regions, where the warm climate creates rosés with exceptional concentration and complexity. The creamy mouthfeel paired with racy acidity demonstrates masterful winemaking technique, likely achieved through careful skin contact timing and possibly some lees stirring. This combination of textural richness with bright energy is what separates premium Australian rosés from simple, one-dimensional pink wines.

The 93-point score reflects the wine's exceptional balance between contrasting elements - the initial zippy acidity that 'puckers the mouth' seamlessly transitions into a creamy, full mouthfeel. This technical achievement, combined with the wine's 'pulpy fruit' character and impressive length, demonstrates the kind of winemaking precision that critics reward. James Kalleske's reputation as a boutique producer also contributes to the recognition, as small-scale producers often achieve greater attention to detail.

The wine's creamy texture and bright acidity make it incredibly versatile with food, particularly excelling with dishes that need both richness and freshness. The grapefruit and raspberry notes complement seafood beautifully, while the peach flavours work wonderfully with pork or chicken dishes. The 'sappy acidity' cuts through creamy sauces and rich cheeses, making it perfect for everything from prawn pasta to charcuterie boards with soft goat's cheese.

As a current vintage rosé, this wine is designed for immediate enjoyment while its vibrant fruit flavours are at their peak. Store it in a cool, dark place and serve well-chilled at 8-10°C to emphasise the refreshing acidity and bright fruit character. The 'reliable' nature mentioned in the tasting notes suggests it will maintain its quality for 12-18 months, but rosé is generally best consumed within two years of vintage to preserve its fresh, energetic character.

The 'Short Stories' name likely reflects James Kalleske's philosophy of creating wines that tell a complete, compelling narrative in a single glass - much like a well-crafted short story. This concept is particularly fitting for rosé, which captures the essence of a vintage in a more immediate, accessible way than complex reds that need years to develop. The name also suggests this wine is designed to be enjoyed in the moment, creating memorable experiences without requiring long-term cellaring commitment.
