Why do we love this wine?

Intense and complex with bright, bristly acid. Classic strawberries and cream with a vein of spice running throughout. This is so interesting and indulgent. Mixed berries, red cherry, strawberry and fresh yoghurt framed by punchy, peppy acidity. That acid drives the wine through the long, enduring, detailed finish. This is rosé with a little something extra – serious business to be sure

Frequently Asked Questions

This Black Label Rosé stands apart with its serious, complex character that challenges the notion of rosé as a simple summer sipper. The intense flavour profile combines classic strawberries and cream with an intriguing spice element, while punchy acidity drives a remarkably long finish. It's what wine professionals call a 'serious rosé' - one that demands attention and rewards contemplation rather than casual consumption.

Frankland River is one of Western Australia's coolest wine regions, located in the Great Southern zone about 350km southeast of Perth. The region's cool climate and long growing season allow grapes to develop intense flavours while retaining the bright, bristly acidity that makes this rosé so distinctive. This terroir is particularly suited to producing rosés with both power and elegance, explaining why this wine has such remarkable depth and complexity.

Given its light body but intense character, serve this rosé well-chilled at 8-10°C to highlight its crisp acidity and fresh fruit flavours. The wine's complexity and spice notes make it perfect for more substantial fare than typical rosés - think grilled salmon, herb-crusted lamb, or aged cheeses. The yoghurt and berry notes also complement Middle Eastern cuisine beautifully, particularly dishes with pomegranate or sumac.

James Halliday's Five Red Star rating represents the pinnacle of Australian winery recognition, awarded to fewer than 100 wineries nationwide. This designation means Alkoomi consistently produces wines of exceptional quality across their range, with at least two wines scoring 95+ points annually. For this rosé specifically, the 90-point score indicates outstanding quality that places it among Australia's finest pink wines, justifying its 'serious business' reputation.

While most rosés are designed for immediate consumption, this wine's structure suggests it has moderate ageing potential of 2-3 years from vintage. The intense acidity acts as a natural preservative, while the complexity indicates underlying structure that can develop further. However, the fresh berry and yoghurt characters are at their peak now, so drinking within the next 12-18 months will showcase the wine's vibrant, youthful charm at its best.
