If you needed a reminder that the Yarra Valley can produce seriously good cool-climate shiraz, this bottle makes the point loud and clear. From one of the region’s most decorated and recognisable wineries, it shows just how much polish and power the Yarra can deliver. Confident without being flashy, it’s a shiraz that balances strength with real finesse.

Why do we love this wine?

This thing smells so good, you'll just wanna sit there sniffing it all day - black cherry, blood plum and raspberry, with a dash of pepper, clove and star anise. Lifted, fragrant, totally inviting. Medium-to-full-bodied and silky, juicy dark berries glide across the palate, wrapped in fine tannins and a whisper of oak. Fresh, peppery, and neatly structured on the finish. Modern Yarra shiraz done right - flavour-packed, polished, and dangerously easy to fall for. Yering Station simply don't miss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yarra Valley's cool climate produces a more elegant, medium-to-full-bodied style of Shiraz compared to the powerful, intense versions from warmer regions like Barossa Valley. The cooler temperatures allow for longer ripening periods, resulting in wines with lifted aromatics, fine tannins, and a beautiful balance between fruit concentration and freshness. This 2022 Estate Shiraz perfectly exemplifies this modern Yarra style with its silky texture and peppery finish.

Serve this Shiraz at 16-18°C to showcase its complex aromatics of black cherry, blood plum, and spice notes. Decanting for 30-60 minutes will help open up the wine's layers and soften the fine tannins. The wine's medium-to-full body and fresh acidity make it versatile for food pairing - try it with grilled lamb, beef dishes, or even duck with cherry sauce to complement those beautiful dark fruit flavours.

A 95-point rating from Wine Pilot indicates exceptional quality, placing this wine in the top tier of Australian Shiraz. Combined with Yering Station's Five Red Star Halliday rating and inclusion in the Top 100 Producers 2025, this represents outstanding winemaking consistency. These accolades suggest the wine offers complexity, balance, and ageing potential that justifies serious consideration for both immediate enjoyment and cellar storage.

This 2022 Shiraz has excellent ageing potential thanks to its fine tannin structure and balanced acidity. Over 5-8 years, the vibrant fruit flavours will integrate further with the subtle oak, developing more complex secondary characters like leather, earth, and dried herbs. The wine's current freshness and peppery finish suggest it's built for evolution, though it's also drinking beautifully now if you prefer the youthful, fruit-forward style.

The wine's combination of dark berries, pepper, clove, and star anise makes it perfect for dishes with complementary spice profiles. Try it with Moroccan lamb tagine, pepper-crusted steak, or Asian-inspired beef stir-fries that echo the wine's natural spice elements. The blood plum and raspberry notes also pair beautifully with game meats like venison or duck, while the silky tannins won't overpower dishes with rich, savoury sauces.
