This wine is a love letter to a style that almost disappeared. Back in the 1950s, Wynns made wines to a feeling rather than a formula - blending cabernet and shiraz in whatever proportion the vintage demanded. Why do we love this wine?
The grapes are harvested on the same day and co-fermented - Wynns' way of ensuring the two varieties become genuinely inseparable rather than just blended after the fact. Early harvest, wild ferments and larger oak maturation keep everything fresh, vibrant and elegantly proportioned. Vibrant purple in the glass, with mulberry, redcurrant and blackberry on the nose - earthy and completely inviting, with chocolate, spice and coffee bean weaving through. The palate has silky tannins with a serious grip underneath, excellent balance and an impressive length that finishes with a flick of bitter coffee that ties the whole thing together beautifully. Food-friendly, elegant and built to drink well for the next eight to ten years.
