Why do we love this wine?

The 2021 is extraordinary. Deep magenta crimson in the glass, with super-ripe dark plum, boysenberry, mulberry and dark cherry on the nose - layered with fruitcake spice, ironstone, jasmine, roasting meats and dark chocolate in a complexity that just keeps revealing itself. The palate starts with a deceptive elegance and then turns dark, spicy and long - powdery tannins, a graphite-driven finish and a depth and persistence that marks this out as genuinely serious wine. Simply one of Greenock Creek's yummiest wines.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Stone Block vineyard represents some of Greenock Creek's most prized terroir in the Barossa Valley, where ancient soils and optimal microclimates create ideal conditions for premium Shiraz. The vineyard's unique geological composition and careful site selection allow the grapes to develop intense concentration and complexity. This single-vineyard expression showcases the distinctive character that has earned Greenock Creek recognition as a Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery.

The 2021 vintage was exceptional in the Barossa, marked by ideal growing conditions that produced wines of remarkable balance and intensity. This Stone Block Shiraz exemplifies the vintage's success, earning an impressive 95 points from VinoMasters - a score that places it among the elite tier of Australian Shiraz. The combination of perfect ripening conditions and Greenock Creek's meticulous winemaking has resulted in a wine that captures both power and elegance.

The rich blueberry and liquorice flavours of this full-bodied Shiraz make it an excellent match for robust red meats, particularly grilled lamb with rosemary or slow-cooked beef brisket. The wine's intensity and structure can also complement aged hard cheeses, game meats like venison, or even dark chocolate desserts. The liquorice notes create beautiful synergy with Mediterranean herbs and spices, making it perfect for hearty stews and braised dishes.

Premium Barossa Shiraz from top producers like Greenock Creek typically has excellent cellaring potential of 15-20 years when stored properly. The 2021's full-bodied structure and high-quality fruit concentration suggest it will develop beautifully over the next decade, with the blueberry flavours evolving into more complex secondary characteristics. While delicious now, this wine should reach its peak drinking window around 2028-2035, developing greater complexity and integration with time.

Greenock Creek has built its reputation on small-batch, site-specific winemaking that emphasises terroir expression over mass production. Their Five Red Star Halliday rating reflects consistent excellence across their portfolio, while their focus on single-vineyard wines like Stone Block allows each site's unique character to shine through. The winery's commitment to traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern precision has established them as one of the Barossa's most respected boutique producers.
