Why do we love this wine?
It would be quite appropriate to say that this producer is an icon of the Barossa Valley. You’ll know them and revere them for sure. And this is their flagship shiraz, one that regularly delights the critics and finds its way into the most discerning cellars. Some of the fruit used comes from vines planted over 150 years ago and the wine spends over a year in 25% new French oak. It’s pure silk on the palate, endlessly elegant and surprisingly light on its feet despite the depth of flavour. Plum, cinnamon, dark chocolate, pepper and cedar intertwine, making for some heady drinking. We’re loving how it’s going now, but can’t wait to see it after a decade and then two decades. Do you have the patience?

Halliday Wine Companion
A wine with an enviable track record of longevity and certainly one that has remained true to its regional routes. Deeply coloured with classic Barossan aromas of blackberry, macerated plums, baking spices, licorice, cedar, vanillin and dark chocolate, the 2018 cuts a full-bodied line across the palate, swelling with opulent berry fruits on the mid-palate. Broody too with a distinct coal dust/graphite edge to the proceedings and grainy, tight tannins tugging at the roof of the mouth. It'll be long-lived – that's for sure – and it shows great fruit intensity and persistence of flavour. One for the lovers of the 'classic' style of Barossan wines.
