Why do we love this wine?

This incredible shiraz, from an iconic Barossa producer, is from some of the oldest shiraz vines in the region. The 120 year old small yielding, dry-grown vines produce sensational fruit dripping with concentration, complexity and power. Old vines such as these deserve a lot of TLC, and the fruit is managed as so - hand-pruned and hand-picked, the resulting wine shows the care taken in every sip. In a 3 Pack

Frequently Asked Questions

Ancient vines like these develop incredibly deep root systems that tap into diverse soil layers, creating wines with exceptional complexity and concentration. The low yields from these century-old vines mean each grape carries intense flavour compounds that younger vines simply cannot match. This translates to a wine with remarkable depth, showing the terroir's full expression through decades of adaptation to Barossa's unique climate and soil conditions.

The blackberry notes come from the shiraz grape's natural fruit expression, intensified by the old vines' concentration. Chocolate flavours typically develop through careful winemaking techniques and the grape's natural tannin structure, while vanilla characteristics often emerge from oak barrel ageing. The combination creates a classic Barossa shiraz profile where dark fruit, rich cocoa notes, and subtle spice work harmoniously together.

The exceptional ratings from Wine Orbit (97pts), Halliday Wine Companion (96pts), and Wine Pilot (96pts) reflect the wine's outstanding quality markers - old vine fruit, meticulous hand-harvesting, and expert winemaking. Critics recognise that wines from 120-year-old vines represent some of Australia's most precious viticultural heritage. The consistency across different rating systems indicates this wine delivers on multiple quality criteria including structure, complexity, and ageing potential.

Dry-grown vines rely entirely on natural rainfall without irrigation, forcing roots to dig deeper into the soil for water and nutrients. This stress creates smaller berries with thicker skins and more concentrated flavours, resulting in wines with greater intensity and complexity. In Barossa's climate, dry-grown shiraz develops distinctive characteristics including more pronounced mineral notes and enhanced colour depth, contributing to the wine's full-bodied, powerful style.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its complex flavours to fully express themselves - too warm and the alcohol becomes prominent, too cold and the rich fruit characters are muted. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to help integrate the tannins and release the wine's aromatic complexity. The wine's power and concentration make it perfect for pairing with robust dishes like grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or rich stews that can match its intensity.
