Every time Turkey Flat releases a grenache, we pay special attention. These folks are absolute royalty in the Barossa, and after more than 30 years working with grenache, they know exactly how to get the best out of it. Long before grenache was fashionable again, Turkey Flat were quietly proving just how serious this variety could be. This 2023 is a cracking example of why - old-vine grunt with old-school grace.

Why do we love this wine?
Old-vine Barossa fruit brings immediate punch - bright raspberry, cherry and plum rolling in first - then things deepen with spice, florals and savoury detail as it opens up. The aromatics are lifted and pretty, but don’t be fooled - there’s real power under the bonnet. The palate fills out beautifully, with juicy red fruit giving way to more complex spiced and earthy notes. Tannins are firm, confident and built for the long haul, giving this wine the structure to age while still being dangerously drinkable right now. Full-bodied but never clumsy, elegant yet undeniably Barossan, this is grenache done by people who genuinely give a sh--. Brilliant with a roast, even better with time, and yet another reminder that Turkey Flat sit comfortably among the most respected producers in the country.
