Elegance in the extreme - a beautifully produced wine from a producer we have come to expect nothing less from. Fresh cherry, early-season strawberry, and pulpy raspberry.

Why do we love this wine?

I love the wines of Taltarni - they are so well defined and stylistically perfect. This is pinot noir with a little bit of extra depth and weight. The red fruit, fresh and ripe, sits squarely at the centre of the wine, with fine boned spindly tannin and bracing acid circling it. The cooler 2023 growing region has allowed for punchy acidity to shine through, and the fruit expression to remain pure and focused. There's nothing out of place, it's fine tuned in its varietal and region expression. This is one of those wines that's an amazing deal at full retail, so get in quick.

Sourced from now mature vines in the Pyrenees. This is a pinot that combines power and plushness. The aromas are all spicy cherry with a trace of jubey raspberry. The palate is where the power emerges with the firm core of oak and tannin supporting the intensely flavours fruit. A wine of poise and presence with a very long focused finish.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cooler 2023 growing season in the Pyrenees was particularly beneficial for Pinot Noir, allowing the vines to retain vibrant acidity while developing pure, focused fruit flavours. This vintage showcases the variety's delicate nature perfectly, with the extended ripening period preserving the wine's elegant structure. The result is a Pinot that balances ripe red fruit with the crisp backbone that makes it so food-friendly and age-worthy.

The Pyrenees region in Victoria is renowned for producing Pinot Noir with distinctive mineral backbone and elegant structure, quite different from the richer styles found in warmer climates. The region's elevation and granite soils contribute to the wine's fine-boned tannins and bright acidity, while the continental climate allows for slow, even ripening. This terroir expression gives Taltarni's Pinot its characteristic purity and regional authenticity that serious wine lovers seek.

The wine's bright acidity and charred, sour cherry notes make it exceptional with duck breast, roasted chicken, or mushroom risotto where the earthy undertones complement the dish. Its light body and redcurrant flavours also pair beautifully with salmon, particularly when grilled or cedar-plank cooked. The fine tannin structure won't overpower delicate preparations, making it versatile enough for charcuterie boards or aged hard cheeses like gruyere.

Taltarni Vineyards has been a pioneer in the Pyrenees region since 1972, establishing the area's reputation for premium cool-climate wines. Their consistent Five Star Halliday rating reflects decades of winemaking excellence and their role in defining what great Australian Pinot Noir can achieve. The estate's commitment to expressing terroir through minimal intervention winemaking has influenced a generation of producers, making them a benchmark for the region.

Serve this Pinot Noir slightly chilled at 14-16°C to highlight its fresh fruit character and elegant structure - too warm and you'll lose the delicate aromatics that make it special. The wine is drinking beautifully now but can develop additional complexity over 3-5 years if stored in a cool, dark place. Decanting isn't necessary for this style, but opening 30 minutes before serving allows the charred and cherry notes to fully express themselves.
