To be honest, we're freaking out a little so we'll keep this brief: St Hugo can get whatever fruit they want in the Barossa. This is the wine they make with love, only in the best years, and only from where the fruit is at its absolute peak that vintage. Half the time, they don't make this wine - this year it was Roland Flat's turn... unbelievable stuff.

Cherry and spice announce themselves early, lifted and vivid, carrying into a palate that's medium-to-full-bodied in weight but rich in texture. Not often that a ten-year-old Aussie red lands on the market, especially one which really is such good value. 2016 was a brilliant vintage for the Barossa Valley region and this is from the Rowland Flat sub-region. Under screwcap. Mature yes, but it is still full of life and energy and has an excellent future still ahead of it. The colour is dark blood red while the nose reveals aromas of dried herbs, a touch of chocolate, leather, aniseed, black fruits and liqueur cherries. There is excellent oak integration evident and the wine exhibits serious length with a line of bright acidity. Well balanced, this is absolutely delicious and should provide immense pleasure over the next ten to fifteen years. 96 Points.

Must have been sealed with a kiss, this one popped when cracked! Deep garnet with developing brick-red hues. Aromas of blackberry, black plum and dark cherry are layered with cedar, leather, tobacco leaf and subtle earthy spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with silky dark fruit supported by beautifully resolved tannins and integrated oak. Notes of dark chocolate, dried herbs and savoury spice build through the mid-palate, revealing the complexity gained through extended bottle age. Balanced acidity maintains freshness and structure, leading to a long, persistent finish of dark fruit and cedar. Vino Masters Score: 97/100 ★★★★★ A distinguished mature Barossa Shiraz displaying excellent bottle development, resolved tannins and impressive tertiary complexity.
