St Hallett's 'Planted' series is a tribute to Barossa's oldest vines and the growers who've kept them thriving for generations. This release celebrates the Marschall Old Block, planted in 1936 and producing some of Australia's finest Shiraz ever since. This is proper premium gear - an astonishing find.

Why do we love this wine?
Deep, dense ruby in the glass, with a nose that leads dark and fruity before white pepper, dried bay leaf and a hint of allspice sneak in. On the palate: power and concentration, dark fruit, ripe juniper, milk chocolate and spice, all sitting on fine-grained tannins with the oak perfectly noticeable. Flavour and texture move as one, right through a finish that just keeps rolling. A cooler, later vintage gave the fruit extra time to build real depth, and a clever dual-yeast fermentation added another layer of complexity most Shiraz never gets near. Sixteen months in French oak hogsheads pulled it all together. This is the equivalent of Grand Cru for the Barossa.
