Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

A nearly even split of grenache, shiraz and mataro makes this blend all the more remarkable - that's the sign of quality fruit and a quality winemaker. The wine is better for the sum of its parts, although you can rest assured that every parcel that goes into this beauty bats well above average. A silky blend that highlights both the plush depths of Barossa fruit, and the mark of a very skilled winemaker. We could drink GSM every day, especially when it looks as good as this.

Frequently Asked Questions

The nearly even split between grenache, shiraz and mataro is quite rare and demonstrates exceptional fruit quality - most GSM blends heavily favour one variety. This balanced approach allows each grape to contribute equally: grenache provides elegance and red fruit brightness, shiraz adds structure and spice, while mataro contributes earthy complexity and tannin backbone. The result is a wine where the whole truly exceeds the sum of its parts, showcasing both the winemaker's skill and the premium Barossa fruit sources.

Barossa's warm continental climate and ancient soils create the perfect conditions for GSM varieties, originally brought by French settlers in the 1840s. The region's ability to produce 'plush depths' in fruit means the grapes develop intense flavour concentration while maintaining balance. Barossa's old vine grenache and shiraz are particularly prized globally, and the mataro benefits from the warm days and cool nights that preserve acidity. This terroir expression gives the wine its silky texture and rich blackberry-plum profile.

The wine's blackberry and plum fruit with spice notes makes it incredibly food-friendly, particularly with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines that complement the GSM blend's French heritage. Try it with lamb tagine, grilled chorizo, or herb-crusted beef where the spice elements will harmonise beautifully. The medium body won't overpower lighter dishes like duck confit or mushroom risotto, while the silky texture pairs excellently with aged cheeses and charcuterie boards.

This 2024 GSM is crafted in an approachable style that's delicious now, showcasing the fresh fruit and silky texture that makes it so appealing. However, quality GSM blends like this often develop additional complexity over 3-5 years as the three varieties integrate further and secondary flavours emerge. The Barossa fruit quality and skilled winemaking suggest it will reward both immediate enjoyment and short-term cellaring, depending on whether you prefer vibrant fruit or developed savoury characteristics.

The combination of 'Top 100 Real Review Winery 2025', 'Mofo Fave', and 'Staff picks' recognition indicates this wine has impressed both professional critics and industry insiders across different evaluation criteria. These aren't just numerical scores but represent recognition of Sorby Adams' winemaking excellence and this particular wine's outstanding quality-to-value ratio. When a wine earns both critical acclaim and staff favourite status, it typically signals exceptional drinkability and represents outstanding value in its category.
