The return of one our most-requested wines of all time. The Blend - from Australian winemaking savant Dave Powell - is a remarkable wine. Breadth, weight, rusticity, opulence - there's not a box it doesn't tick. It is a wine approaching perfection. Don't let the name fool you, this is 100% Barossa shiraz.

Why do we love this wine?

We'll make this clear - this is the last time you'll ever see this wine. They simply don't make it anymore - now or never Mofo! Just when we thought Powell & Sons couldn’t impress us more, they raised the bar higher than it’s ever been before. This seems to good to be true, right? We’re pinching ourselves too: it’s not every day that you get the best sub-regions of the Barossa (Marananga playing a big part of that), with the fruit of each vineyard separately nurtured and carefully blended after 18 months ageing in French oak. The name says it all, but this isn’t just any blend: it’s the king of blends. All shiraz. All star fruit. All the best oak. All in one neat little parcel. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, truly nothing will.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the art of blending by combining fruit from multiple premium Barossa sub-regions, with Marananga playing a starring role. Each vineyard's fruit is vinified separately and aged for 18 months in French oak before being carefully blended together. This approach allows the winemaker to create complexity and balance that captures the best characteristics of different terroirs, rather than expressing just one site's personality.

The 2021 vintage has earned recognition as a 'Killer Vintage' in the Barossa, indicating exceptional growing conditions that year. Cool, wet winter conditions followed by a warm, dry growing season created ideal circumstances for Shiraz development. This vintage produced wines with excellent colour concentration, balanced acidity, and intense flavour development - qualities that are clearly expressed in this full-bodied example.

The 18-month French oak maturation adds layers of complexity beyond the fruit's natural blood plum and allspice characteristics. French oak typically imparts more subtle, elegant tannins compared to American oak, along with notes of vanilla, cedar, and gentle spice. This extended ageing period allows the wine to develop tertiary flavours while maintaining the bold Shiraz fruit profile that Barossa is famous for.

The wine's rich, full-bodied profile and allspice notes make it perfect for hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, grilled ribeye steak, or game meats. The blood plum characteristics also complement dishes with sweet and savoury elements, such as duck with cherry sauce or barbecued ribs with plum glaze. The French oak integration means it can handle bold flavours without being overwhelmed.

Powell & Son's status as a Five Star Halliday Rated Winery and Icon Producer reflects their consistent excellence in winemaking over many years. This recognition means they have access to premium fruit sources and employ meticulous vineyard and cellar practices. Their 'Mofo Fav Producer' rating suggests they consistently deliver wines that exceed expectations for their price point, making this blend a reliable choice for serious wine enthusiasts.
