Why do we love this wine?

Let’s be real: what can’t Sidewood do spectacularly? From a pretty boutique winery tucked away in the breathtaking Adelaide Hills’ sub region of Hahndorf, it’s an impressive feat to produce consistently amazing wine. On top of their game, this winery are championing pinot noir pioneering the ‘clonal conversation’ with their single-clone wines Abel, Oberlin and 777. Their Estate pinot is a jolly blend of all three, finding the perfect balance between juicy cranberries, earth, truffle, and remarkable fine tannins. This is anything but another pinot. Hold on tight to this one mofo, you’ll never want to let it go.

Review

Patrick Eckel

A mix of whole berry and whole bunch in terms of fermentation and time in new and old French Oak. The aromatics give autumnal red berry fruits with understated savoury spice. This is a wine that defies its price point, there are layers of interest that start with the spiced and earthen influence of whole bunch and moves to the sweeter aromatic and pure expression of red cherry that comes from whole berry. Acidity shows itself in the form of cranberry like drive, oak gives brown spice. The wine finishes with an enjoyable richness of red cherry and very good length.
