Weighty, plush and concentrated as all get out, you absolutely can't go wrong with this Barossa shiraz. Although we have to keep the name a secret, we will say this... don't fear this wine (you'll love that pun when it arrives at your door).

Why do we love this wine?

Sourced from a single old vineyard in the Greenock sub-region of the Barossa, each grape is individually hand-picked to ensure nothing but the best, juiciest, boldest fruit makes the cut. The super small batch is fermented and basket pressed into in oak barrels for 24 months of maturation. The result will leave you with little doubt that this is indeed a very fine wine. Concentrated fruit flavours in spades; blackberry, plum, black olive, dark chocolate and earthy notes. The decadence and outstanding structure of this shiraz carry through the palate and form a long, mouth-filling finish. Look, we see A LOT of shiraz come through the door at Vinomofo, and if this humble wine-professional's opinion means anything: this is red-hot shiraz.

Frequently Asked Questions

Greenock is a prestigious sub-region within the Barossa Valley known for its ancient soils and ideal microclimate that produces intensely concentrated shiraz. The old vines in this area have deep root systems that access mineral-rich subsoils, creating wines with exceptional depth and complexity. This particular vineyard's age and terroir contribute to the wine's remarkable structure and the distinctive earthy undertones that complement the rich fruit flavours.

Extended oak maturation allows the wine's powerful fruit flavours to integrate seamlessly with the wood tannins, creating a more harmonious and complex final product. During this period, the wine undergoes slow oxidation and flavour development that softens harsh edges while building the wine's impressive structure. The lengthy barrel aging also contributes to the wine's full-bodied palate weight and helps develop those sophisticated dark chocolate and earthy notes that distinguish premium Barossa shiraz.

A 98-point score from Vinomasters places this shiraz in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that rivals some of Australia's most celebrated wines. This rating suggests the wine demonstrates perfect balance, complexity, and aging potential that justifies its premium status. The Double Gold medal from the same organisation further validates the wine's exceptional craftsmanship and positions it among the top tier of Australian shiraz releases.

Serve this shiraz at 16-18°C to allow its complex flavours to fully express themselves without being muted by excessive chill. Decant the wine 30-60 minutes before serving to help integrate the oak and fruit elements while softening any residual tannins from the 24-month barrel aging. The wine's concentrated fruit and robust structure make it perfect for pairing with rich, flavourful dishes like grilled lamb, aged cheeses, or dark chocolate desserts.

Given the wine's exceptional structure, old vine fruit source, and extended oak maturation, this 2024 shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 10-15 years or more. The concentrated blackberry and plum flavours will evolve into more complex tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and spice over time. The wine's full-bodied nature and balanced acidity provide the backbone necessary for graceful aging, though it's already drinking beautifully now for those who prefer immediate gratification.
