This masterpiece was created for lovers of big, rich, imposing Barossa shiraz. A throwback, or perhaps a nod, to the old-school Barossa styles that made the region (and probably the whole country) famous. It's hard not to get a bit caught up in this wine, beautifully done. It's no surprise to us this is pulling huge scores left and right...

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

22 months in 20% new oak is the first thing you need to know about this beautiful beast. A rich, concentrated and complex whirl of dark chocolate, black fruits and cedar. The tannins are plush and juicy but silky on the finish. As we said above, this is truly a wine for those that yearn for the Barossa shiraz of old. Drink it with a knife and fork, pour it on your steak - all those clichés. It's unreal. We tried cellaring this one at home but quickly learnt something strange... this wine's like's a mozzie bite, the more you tell yourself not to touch it, not to think about it, the harder it gets because it's just heaven to scratch that itch. There's no way we'll be able to keep our hands off this for the next 10 - 15 years, but anyone that could would be in for a very special surprise.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine represents a return to the traditional Barossa shiraz style that made the region famous decades ago. The 22 months in 20% new oak creates the rich, concentrated character that old-school Barossa was renowned for, before many producers shifted to lighter, more fruit-forward styles. It's a deliberate homage to the powerful, complex wines that established Barossa's international reputation.

This full-bodied shiraz demands substantial food pairings - think grilled steaks, braised lamb shanks, or aged hard cheeses. The plush tannins and dark chocolate notes make it perfect for rich, savoury dishes with strong flavours. Serve at cellar temperature (16-18°C) and decant for at least an hour to let the complex oak integration fully express itself.

Scoring 95-96 points across three respected wine publications indicates exceptional quality and consistency in winemaking. These scores place it in the top tier of Australian shiraz, suggesting remarkable balance between fruit concentration, oak integration, and structural elements. When multiple critics agree at this level, it typically signals a wine that will age gracefully and reward patience.

The winemaker suggests 10-15 years cellaring potential, which is typical for premium Barossa shiraz with this level of concentration and oak treatment. The full-bodied structure and plush tannins will gradually soften and integrate, developing secondary flavours of leather, tobacco, and earthy complexity. However, the wine's immediate appeal means it's equally enjoyable now for those who prefer bold, youthful fruit expression.

The dark chocolate notes come from the interaction between concentrated shiraz fruit and the 20% new oak regime during 22 months of maturation. Cedar flavours develop from the oak itself, particularly French oak barrels which impart these distinctive woody, spicy characteristics. This flavour profile is classic for premium Barossa shiraz, where the warm climate concentrates fruit sugars that transform into these rich, complex secondary flavours during barrel ageing.
