Marananga, remember that name Mofo. This famed sub-region of Barossa has been producing some of the purest expressions of Aussie shiraz for years and this is no exception to the rule. Ripe, oaky, dark and dense. Pure fruit, purely expressed. Pure class.

Why do we love this wine?

When you've got great fruit, it inspires great care throughout the entire winemaking process. From vineyard to glass, goblet or whatever vessel you choose to take your in, this has been purposefully and dutifully cared for - and it shows. Hand-picked, matured in both new and seasoned American and French oak barrels, unfined and unfiltered. As with every great story, there's three acts to this wine.
Act 1 - The nose; dark chocolate, coconut and bursting black cherry, intrigue the drinker.
Act 2 - The oak; overt yet cleverly interwoven, the palate opens with a distinctly smooth, cedary edge that fills out the weighty palate whilst enhancing the spice.
Act 3 - The fruit; pure, intense, ripe and dark. The interplay between the pristine red and black fruit, the fine tannins and the new oak is where the real pleasure lies within this wine and the finish is enough to have you reaching for another glass before you can google how to say 'Marananga'!

Frequently Asked Questions

This exceptional Shiraz earned 96 points from Wine Orbit due to its perfect expression of Barossa Valley terroir in an outstanding vintage year. The 2023 growing season provided ideal conditions for Shiraz, allowing the grapes to develop intense blackcurrant and blood plum flavours while maintaining the spice complexity that defines premium Barossa reds. The full-bodied structure and rich style showcase why this region is considered Australia's premier Shiraz destination.

The 2023 vintage received an impressive 8/10 rating from Halliday, indicating it was a very strong year for Barossa Valley. This vintage benefited from excellent weather patterns that allowed for optimal ripening without excessive heat stress, resulting in wines with concentrated fruit flavours and balanced acidity. The combination of warm days and cool nights during harvest helped preserve the natural spice characteristics while developing the rich, full-bodied profile that makes this Shiraz so compelling.

The rich blackcurrant and blood plum flavours, combined with the wine's spice profile, make it perfect for hearty red meat dishes like grilled lamb, beef roasts, or barbecued steaks. The full-bodied structure can stand up to bold flavours such as pepper-crusted meats or dishes with rich, savoury sauces. For cheese pairings, try aged cheddar or blue cheese, as the wine's intensity complements strong, mature flavours beautifully.

Boutique producers in the Barossa Valley typically focus on small-batch winemaking with meticulous attention to detail, often using traditional techniques passed down through generations. These producers usually source grapes from specific vineyard blocks or single vineyards, allowing for greater control over quality and expression of terroir. The boutique designation often means hand-picking, careful selection, and limited production quantities, which contributes to the wine's exceptional quality and unique character that larger commercial operations cannot replicate.

Store this full-bodied Shiraz in a cool, dark place at around 12-15°C to preserve its complex flavours and allow for potential cellaring. Serve at 16-18°C to fully appreciate the blackcurrant and blood plum notes while allowing the spice elements to shine through. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to help the wine open up and soften any tannins, which will enhance the overall drinking experience and showcase the wine's exceptional 96-point quality.
