Why do we love this wine?

Classic single vineyard Barossa shiraz made from old vines on the western ridge of the valley. Plum, mulberry and clove jump out of the glass upon first whiff. The palate expands even further with vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate and graphite. The mix of seasoned American and French oak in the maturation has given rise to a mix of sweet spices, vanilla bean and roasted coffee notes that accentuate the high-toned fragrance of the already beautiful shiraz fruit from some seriously kick ass growers. Shiraz lovers, eat your heart out.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine showcases the distinctive character of Barossa's western ridge through old vine fruit from a single vineyard, which concentrates flavours and adds complexity that younger plantings simply can't achieve. The western ridge location provides ideal sun exposure and soil drainage, contributing to the wine's impressive structure and the high-toned fragrance that sets it apart from mass-produced regional blends. The combination of seasoned American and French oak creates a sophisticated spice profile that complements rather than overwhelms the exceptional fruit quality.

Old vines naturally produce lower yields with more concentrated fruit, which explains the intense plum and mulberry core in this shiraz. These mature root systems access deeper soil layers and minerals, contributing to the wine's graphite notes and overall complexity. The vine age also helps create the wine's full-bodied structure and the seamless integration of dark chocolate and liquorice flavours that develop during fermentation.

The wine's rich palate weight and spice profile make it ideal for robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb, beef brisket, or game meats where the tannins can cut through fat and complement protein. The vanilla and roasted coffee notes from oak maturation pair beautifully with barbecued meats or dishes featuring smoky flavours. For cheese lovers, try it with aged cheddar or blue cheese where the wine's fruit intensity can balance strong, salty flavours.

The 96-point Halliday rating and Special Value Award reflect exceptional quality-to-price ratio, particularly impressive for a single vineyard wine from premium Barossa fruit. Critics have recognised the wine's technical excellence in balancing power with elegance, showcasing how skilled winemaking can highlight terroir without over-extraction. The consistent high scores across multiple reviewers (94-96 points) indicate this represents outstanding value in the premium Australian shiraz category.

Store this full-bodied shiraz in a cool, dark place at 12-15°C to preserve its complex aromatics and prevent premature ageing. Serve at 16-18°C to allow the vanilla, spice, and fruit characters to fully express themselves - too cold and you'll miss the nuanced oak integration. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to help the wine open up and soften any firm tannins, particularly if drinking within the next 2-3 years while the fruit is still vibrant.
