Why do we love this wine?

Spoilt for choice of old vine shiraz, this producer captures the intensity of their vineyards in true style. They've built a reputation for wines that are true to McLaren Vale, and the generations of craft that have been invested into the region. There’s deeply bound notes of spicy, chocolatey french oak that complements the pure line of blackcurrant, bramble and licorice. Standing tall now, we can’t wait to see where this will be in many years time.

Frequently Asked Questions

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and ancient soils create ideal conditions for shiraz, producing wines with intense fruit concentration and distinctive regional character. The area's old vine plantings, some dating back generations, contribute to the complexity and depth found in this wine. The region's proximity to the ocean also provides cooling influences that help maintain natural acidity while allowing full flavour development.

The French oak adds layers of spicy, chocolatey complexity that perfectly complements the wine's natural blackcurrant and bramble fruit character. French oak is prized for its tight grain structure, which imparts more subtle, integrated flavours compared to American oak. This creates a harmonious balance where the oak enhances rather than overwhelms the pure fruit expression, adding textural richness and aromatic complexity.

A 95-point score from Wine Orbit represents exceptional quality, placing this wine in the top tier of Australian shiraz. Wine Orbit is a respected publication known for rigorous tasting standards, so this rating indicates outstanding balance, complexity, and ageing potential. Such high scores are reserved for wines that demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship and regional expression, making this a standout example of McLaren Vale shiraz.

Given its full-bodied structure, high-quality fruit, and French oak integration, this shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 10-15 years or more. The wine's natural tannins and acidity will allow it to develop greater complexity over time, with the fruit flavours evolving from primary blackcurrant notes to more secondary and tertiary characteristics. The producer's confidence in its long-term potential suggests this wine will reward patient collectors.

This full-bodied shiraz with its rich blackcurrant, vanilla, and spicy oak characteristics pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, particularly lamb or beef with herb crusts. The wine's intensity can also complement game dishes, aged cheeses, and hearty stews. The chocolatey oak notes make it an excellent match for dishes with earthy mushrooms or rich, tomato-based sauces that echo the wine's depth and complexity.
