Small production. Single vineyard. Old vines on sandy Blewitt Springs soils. And a winemaking team who treats every parcel of fruit like it's the most important thing in the world. Because when you drink this wine - you really feel like it's just that; the only thing that matters in the world.

Why do we love this wine?

Ray Jordan called it "distinctive and classy... excellent wine." James Halliday described it as "suave and sophisticated." Two of Australia's most respected voices arriving at exactly the same conclusion - this is something special. Blackberry, dark plum and cedar on the nose, with spice and a lifted floral complexity that draws you in immediately. The palate is rich and velvety, with dark chocolate, mocha and a refined tannin structure that carries the finish long and clean. Concentrated without being blocky. Elegant without being shy. Single vineyard McLaren Vale shiraz from one of the region's most dedicated small producers. Drinks beautifully now and has years of development ahead. This one's a real treat.

Frequently Asked Questions

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils create perfect conditions for Shiraz, allowing the variety to develop its signature rich, spicy character while maintaining elegance. The region's proximity to the ocean moderates temperatures, preventing over-ripeness while encouraging the development of complex flavours like the blackberry, dark plum and spice notes found in this wine. This single vineyard expression showcases how dedicated small producers can capture the essence of their specific terroir.

The 2022 vintage in McLaren Vale produced wines with exceptional concentration and balance, evident in this Shiraz's ability to be both rich and refined. Favourable growing conditions allowed for optimal flavour development while preserving the natural acidity needed for long-term ageing. This vintage's success is reflected in the wine's velvety texture and the seamless integration of dark chocolate and mocha notes with its refined tannin structure.

This wine's rich, velvety palate and spice complexity make it perfect for robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb with rosemary, aged beef steaks, or game meats. The dark chocolate and mocha notes also pair beautifully with barbecued meats or dishes featuring earthy mushrooms and herbs. The refined tannin structure means it won't overpower more delicate preparations like duck breast or even aged hard cheeses.

This apparent contradiction highlights the winemaker's skill in achieving intensity without heaviness. The concentration refers to the depth of flavour - blackberry, dark plum, and spice - while elegance comes from the wine's refined tannin structure and clean finish. Single vineyard fruit from a dedicated small producer allows for this level of precision, creating a wine that delivers power through finesse rather than brute force.

With its refined tannin structure and excellent balance, this wine has significant development potential over the next 8-12 years. The current lifted floral complexity and spice notes will evolve into more savoury, earthy characteristics while the fruit flavours integrate further with the oak-derived chocolate and mocha elements. McLaren Vale Shiraz from quality producers like this often reaches peak drinking around 7-10 years from vintage, though it's already showing beautifully now.
