This is a one off offer. Big, rich, traditional-style Barossa shiraz for a fraction of the price. It was really hard for us to get this wine and we're stoked to be able to bring it to our lovely Mofos, but this won't be around forever, don't sleep on this one.

Why do we love this wine?

The geographical location of this estate vineyard is only 2km from Henschke and it's famous 'Hill of Grace'. The world-class winemaker believes in doing things the old-school way: machinery cannot replace the human taste necessary in the wine production process. Smell, vision, judgment and experience are needed, so, she strictly requires hand-picking of grapes to ensure nothing but pristine, high-quality fruit makes the cut. This old-school thinking is carried through the wine too; big, full, rich and ripe, with plenty of oak and plush tannins. The lively acidity, and effortless elegance, of this wine are a result of the specific conditions and climate of the tiny, single vineyard. Entirely too much wine for this price - a steal.

Frequently Asked Questions

This single vineyard estate sits just 2km from the legendary Henschke Hill of Grace vineyard, benefiting from the same exceptional terroir that produces some of Australia's most celebrated wines. The combination of Eden Valley's cool climate conditions, hand-picked fruit selection, and old-school winemaking philosophy creates a wine with remarkable elegance and complexity. The proximity to such an iconic site means this Shiraz shares similar soil composition and microclimate advantages that contribute to the region's reputation for producing world-class wines.

The winemaker's commitment to hand-picking reflects a philosophy that human judgment is irreplaceable in quality winemaking. Unlike machine harvesting, hand-picking allows for selective grape selection, ensuring only pristine fruit reaches the winery while leaving behind damaged or underripe berries. This meticulous approach is particularly important for premium Shiraz, where the quality of individual berries directly impacts the wine's concentration, tannin structure, and overall complexity. The extra labour investment translates to noticeably superior wine quality in the bottle.

Serve this rich, oaky Shiraz at 16-18°C to showcase its plush tannins and complex spice characteristics. The wine's full body and oak integration make it perfect for hearty dishes like grilled lamb, beef steaks, or rich game meats where the wine's structure can complement bold flavours. Consider decanting for 30-60 minutes to allow the wine to open up and reveal its layered plum and spice notes. The wine's lively acidity also makes it surprisingly versatile with aged cheeses and charcuterie.

The 2022 vintage in Eden Valley was characterised by ideal growing conditions that produced concentrated, well-balanced fruit with excellent natural acidity. This particular vintage showcases the perfect marriage of ripeness and freshness that Eden Valley is renowned for, resulting in a wine with both power and elegance. The cooler climate of the region during 2022 helped preserve the bright acidity that balances the wine's rich, full-bodied character. At this price point, you're accessing a vintage that typically commands much higher prices from established Eden Valley producers.

While this Shiraz is approachable now with its plush tannins and integrated oak, it has excellent cellaring potential due to its full-bodied structure and balanced acidity. The wine's old-school winemaking approach and single vineyard concentration suggest it will develop beautifully over 8-12 years, with the oak becoming more integrated and secondary flavours emerging. For immediate enjoyment, the wine offers rich plum and spice characters, but patient cellaring will reward you with increased complexity and smoother tannin integration. Consider buying multiple bottles to enjoy both now and later.
