An immense wine. A monster in a glass. Lashings of vanilla and chocolate sit at the edges of a dense fruit core. Vibrant and energetic with big, chewy tannins and remarkably smooth finish. This is a beast to be sure, but it's also a beauty.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Plush blackberries lead the initial swell of fruit on the palate, but then there is much more to discover. Raspberries, black cherries, nettle, espresso, toffee, bramble, cassis and chocolatey, vanillin oak... a certifiable explosion of complex flavour. The wine is structurally perfect, with tannins that build up the gums and toward the lasting finish. The fruit is along for the ride the whole way, persisting through the finish to finally punctuate the wine with moreish juicy berry generosity. A wine that practically begs you to lift the glass to your mouth and take another sip, and who am I to deny it?

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2021 Shiraz showcases the exceptional complexity that Barossa Valley is renowned for, with an intricate layering of dark fruits, savoury elements like nettle, and sophisticated oak integration. The wine's structural perfection comes from tannins that build progressively, creating a textural experience that's both powerful and refined. Its ability to seamlessly weave together primary fruit flavours with secondary characters like espresso and toffee demonstrates the masterful winemaking typical of premium Barossa producers.

The consistent scoring across multiple respected wine publications (97pts Wine Pilot, 96pts Wine Orbit, 95pts Wine Showcase) indicates exceptional quality and broad critical acclaim. These ratings, combined with the Gold Medal from Wine Showcase Magazine, suggest this wine represents outstanding value and craftsmanship. The Five Star Halliday rating for the winery further confirms this producer's reputation for consistently delivering premium wines that punch above their weight.

The wine's rich blackberry and black cherry core, enhanced by chocolatey oak and espresso notes, makes it an ideal match for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with pepper crusts. The tannin structure and full body can handle rich, umami-driven dishes like mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses. The bramble and cassis elements also pair beautifully with game meats or dark chocolate desserts, where the wine's complexity can shine alongside equally sophisticated flavours.

While this 2021 Shiraz is already showing remarkable complexity and integration, its structural perfection and building tannins suggest excellent cellaring potential. The wine's current fruit-forward generosity makes it highly enjoyable now, but the quality oak integration and balanced acidity indicate it will develop additional tertiary characters over the next 8-12 years. The 'moreish' quality described suggests it's perfectly accessible for immediate consumption while rewarding those patient enough to cellar it.

The Black Market Deal format typically indicates exceptional value pricing on premium wines, often from highly regarded producers who prefer to remain anonymous to protect their regular pricing structure. This allows wine lovers to access seriously high-quality bottles at significantly reduced prices. Given the multiple high ratings and complex flavour profile described, this deal represents an opportunity to experience premium Barossa Shiraz quality without the premium price tag typically associated with such acclaimed wines.
