Why do we love this wine?

From the prized southern part of the sun-drenched Barossa, steeped in quality grown shiraz (you know we’ve done the research). It’s right here, where the surrounding views offer the picture-perfect painting; a diversity of colours from the tree leaves to the soils, which in turn give our favourite grape - shiraz. A blend of hand-selected low-yielding parcels, you’ll find generous flavours of black fruit, olive and pepper spice, backed by silky tannins, yet the wine is intense on the palate, with a great depth and length.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine comes specifically from the southern Barossa, which is renowned for producing some of Australia's most concentrated and age-worthy Shiraz. The hand-selected, low-yielding parcels create more intense flavours compared to mass-produced wines. The combination of diverse soils and microclimates in this region contributes to the wine's complexity, offering layers of black fruit, olive tapenade, and pepper spice that reflect the terroir's unique character.

With scores of 96 points from Wine Orbit and 95 points from both Wine Pilot and Wine Showcase, this Shiraz sits in the 'outstanding' category that wine critics reserve for exceptional bottles. These consistently high ratings across multiple respected publications indicate remarkable quality for the vintage. Such scores typically suggest the wine has excellent structure, complexity, and ageing potential that will reward cellaring for 8-15 years.

The wine's rich black fruit flavours and silky tannins make it perfect for hearty dishes like grilled lamb with rosemary, beef brisket, or aged hard cheeses. The olive and pepper spice notes complement Mediterranean-style dishes, while the chocolate undertones pair beautifully with dark chocolate desserts. The full-bodied structure can stand up to bold flavours like barbecued meats or rich pasta dishes with mushroom and truffle.

While this Shiraz is approachable now with its silky tannins and generous fruit flavours, the high professional ratings and full-bodied structure suggest excellent cellaring potential. The 2021 vintage benefits from the wine's depth and length, meaning it will continue developing complexity over the next decade. If drinking now, decanting for 30-60 minutes will help integrate the flavours and soften any remaining tannins.

Low-yielding parcels refer to vineyard blocks where vines produce fewer grapes per vine, concentrating the plant's energy into creating more intense, flavourful fruit. This viticultural approach sacrifices quantity for quality, resulting in grapes with higher sugar levels, more concentrated flavours, and better colour extraction. The hand-selection process ensures only the best parcels contribute to the final blend, explaining why this wine delivers such generous black fruit flavours and impressive depth on the palate.
