Well, we've had some belters from this producer. This is just another feather in the cap, and one we didn't think we'd get our hands on.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Picked from 80+ year old vines, this has received the royal treatment in every way. Rumbling with dark chocolate, blackberry, and tobacco undertones. Hints of coconut and vanilla bean sneak in to sweeten the whole experience. The finish is something to marvel at, elongated and reverberating with an intense perfume of smoked blueberries and black cherries. Classic McLaren Vale shiraz - you could spot it from a mile away.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Shiraz comes from 80+ year old vines, which naturally produce lower yields but more concentrated, complex flavours. Old vines develop deeper root systems that access different soil layers, contributing to the wine's remarkable depth and the classic McLaren Vale character of dark chocolate and blackberry. The extended finish with smoked blueberry notes is a hallmark of premium old vine fruit.

The coconut and vanilla bean notes come from careful oak treatment during maturation, likely French or American oak barrels. These flavours integrate beautifully with Shiraz's natural dark fruit profile, creating complexity without overwhelming the wine's inherent character. The 'royal treatment' mentioned suggests premium cooperage and extended barrel ageing to achieve this sophisticated balance.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool sea breezes, allows Shiraz grapes to ripen slowly while retaining natural acidity. The region's diverse soils, from sand over clay to ironstone, contribute to the complex flavour profiles like the tobacco undertones found in this wine. It's one of Australia's most recognised Shiraz regions, producing wines with distinctive regional character.

Receiving 96 points from both Melbourne International Wine Competition and Wine Orbit, plus 94 points from Ken Gargett, indicates exceptional quality across multiple expert palates. These consistently high scores suggest the wine demonstrates outstanding balance, complexity, and ageing potential. The Gold Medal recognition further confirms this is a standout example of premium Australian Shiraz.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics to fully express themselves - the dark chocolate, tobacco, and smoked berry notes need proper temperature to shine. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to soften the tannins and integrate the oak-derived vanilla flavours. Pair with rich, flavourful dishes like grilled red meats or aged cheeses that can match its intensity.
