Coonawarra is an endless treasure trove, and we've just struck more gold. Shiraz at it's fresh, lively best. Abundantly fruited, smoooth drinking shiraz that's winning hearts.

Why do we love this wine?

We would have to definitively say that South Australian shiraz rules over all. Perhaps we’re a little biased, but you put those vines amongst the rich soils and famed Aussie sun, magical things truly do happen. Pair that with the skill of our winemakers, and you’ve got a whole lot of value on your hands. We wish we could share the glowing Halliday review with you for this one, but you'll just have to wait until it lands at your door to find out for yourself. Dark red fruits are complimented by red cherry, cranberry, with touches of allspice and pepper for a generous seasoning. It’s all you could ask for and more.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soil - a thin strip of red clay over limestone - creates ideal drainage and mineral complexity that's particularly suited to Shiraz. This unique terroir, combined with the region's cool climate maritime influence, produces Shiraz with exceptional structure and longevity. The limestone subsoil contributes to the wine's distinctive slate minerality, while the iron-rich red soil intensifies the dark fruit flavours you'll find in this bottle.

The 2021 vintage in Coonawarra was marked by excellent growing conditions with moderate temperatures and well-timed rainfall, allowing for extended ripening periods. This resulted in wines with concentrated flavours while maintaining natural acidity and structure. The cooler vintage conditions particularly benefit full-bodied Shiraz like this one, preserving the bright red cherry and cranberry notes alongside the deeper blackberry and plum characteristics.

A 95-point score from James Halliday represents exceptional quality - wines that are outstanding examples of their variety and region. Halliday's scoring system is highly respected in Australia, with 95+ points reserved for wines showing remarkable complexity, balance, and ageing potential. This rating suggests the wine demonstrates perfect harmony between its rich fruit flavours, spice elements, and structural components, making it a standout example of premium Australian Shiraz.

Serve this Shiraz at 16-18°C to showcase its complex aromatics and full-bodied structure. The wine's rich dark fruits and peppery spice profile make it perfect for grilled red meats, lamb with rosemary, or aged hard cheeses. The slate minerality and structured tannins also complement hearty dishes like braised beef or game meats, while the cranberry brightness can cut through rich, fatty foods beautifully.

With its full-bodied structure, high-quality vintage, and 95-point rating, this Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. The wine's natural acidity and tannin structure will allow the dark fruit flavours to evolve into more complex secondary characteristics over time. While delicious now, patience will be rewarded as the allspice and pepper notes integrate further and develop additional savoury complexity.
