From the oldest certified organic vineyard in the Barossa (planted 1902), this is a powerful, brooding red with serious pedigree. Big dark fruit, spice, silky tannins, and a finish that just won't quit. It’s a one-off deal, and it’s downright exceptional.

Why do we love this wine?

This wine is proof that age matters, and we’re not just talking about what’s actually in the bottle. Grown on 120+ year-old vines in the sandy soils of Vine Vale, this is textbook Barossa power, dialled in with finesse. Expect a deep swirl of blackberry, black cherry and plum compote. Complex layers of spice, black liquorice, violets, chocolate bullets and a gorgeously earthy edge. It’s plush, generous and full-bodied, but kept fresh and structured with fine, powdery tannins and pristine natural acid. There’s a cassis intensity that builds and builds into a seriously long, satisfying finish. Rich, layered, and bursting with history - this is one you’ll want a few bottles of now, and a few tucked away until 2031.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Shiraz comes from 120+ year-old vines in Vine Vale's sandy soils, making it a true expression of Barossa heritage. Old vines like these produce significantly lower yields but much more concentrated fruit, as their deep root systems access minerals and water sources that younger vines simply can't reach. The age of these vines contributes directly to the wine's complexity and intensity, creating those rich layers of blackberry, spice, and earthy character that define premium Barossa Shiraz.

While this 2021 Shiraz is drinking beautifully now with its plush fruit and fine tannins, it's built for the long haul and will reward patience until 2031 and beyond. The combination of old vine concentration, natural acidity, and structured tannins provides the backbone needed for extended cellaring. As it ages, expect the primary fruit flavours to evolve into more complex secondary notes of leather, tobacco, and dried herbs, while the tannins soften and integrate further.

Certified organic viticulture means these 120-year-old vines are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilisers, relying instead on natural soil health and biodiversity. In the Barossa's warm climate, organic farming can be particularly challenging but often results in wines with more authentic terroir expression and vibrant natural acidity. The organic approach likely contributes to this wine's pristine acid balance and the earthy, mineral complexity that complements its rich fruit character.

The 2021 vintage in Barossa was marked by ideal growing conditions that produced wines of exceptional concentration and balance. Cool, wet winter conditions replenished soil moisture, followed by a warm but not excessive growing season that allowed for slow, even ripening. This combination resulted in wines with intense fruit flavours while retaining the natural acidity and fine tannin structure evident in this Shiraz, explaining why it achieved 95 points from Wine Pilot.

This rich, spice-driven Shiraz is perfect for hearty dishes that can match its intensity - think slow-braised beef, lamb shanks, or aged hard cheeses. The wine's chocolate and liquorice notes make it excellent with barbecued meats, particularly those with smoky or peppery rubs. The earthy complexity and fine tannins also pair beautifully with mushroom-based dishes or game meats, while the cassis intensity can stand up to rich, tomato-based pasta sauces.
