Why do we love this wine?
From 1965 plantings at the top of the Barossa Ranges, this is the producer’s flagship shiraz - and you can certainly tell. Every detail has been sweated here, and the result is nothing short of superb. Dark fruits; plum compote, black cherry, blackberry, carry the core, with layers of spice, liquorice, cedar, tobacco leaf, sage and pressed wildflowers poking through. The vineyard’s ironstone and quartz soils bring a gorgeous mineral edge, and that altitude gives brightness and lift. The oak rolls in to the mid-palate with a bit of swagger but never overwhelms, letting the fruit stay centre stage. Hang onto your hat, Mofo, there's a long, resonant, thunderous finish that'll have you tasting that back palate until tomorrow's breakfast.
