All class. Soft, pretty, powerful, gutsy, smooth, bold, perfumed and concentrated all at once. With nearly 5 years in the rear-view mirror, this one's only just getting started and we are so glad that we get to come along for the ride. Drink now or for years (and years) to come.

Why do we love this wine?

This particular vineyard, in the Rowland Flat area of the Barossa, sits at 380m above sea-level. At this altitude, Barossa vineyards traditionally produce much lower yields creating highly concentrated fruit of exceptional quality. From the first whiff it's quite apparent, this is a really smart wine. A perfumed nose of the expected dark fruits with floral elements of rose petal and violets. On the palate, juicy plums, dark chocolate, pepper, spice and, of course, a long, smooth, oak-driven finish. This drop is as intense as it is complex and will continue to impress for many years to come. Very, very impressive.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Shiraz comes from the elevated Rowland Flat area at 380 metres above sea level, where the altitude naturally reduces vine yields and concentrates flavours. The higher elevation creates cooler conditions that help retain the wine's elegant floral characteristics - rose petal and violets - alongside the powerful dark fruit intensity Barossa is famous for. This combination of altitude-driven concentration and maintained freshness is what separates premium Barossa sites from lower-lying vineyards.

With its exceptional ratings averaging 96+ points and full-bodied structure, this Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential spanning 10-15 years from vintage. The wine's concentrated fruit from low-yielding vines, combined with quality oak integration, provides the backbone needed for extended ageing. As it matures, expect the current vibrant plum and dark chocolate flavours to evolve into more complex tertiary notes while the tannins soften and integrate further.

The wine's rich palate weight and spice-driven profile make it ideal for robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb, beef brisket, or game meats. The dark chocolate and pepper notes complement char-grilled steaks beautifully, while the underlying floral elements provide enough elegance to pair with duck or venison. For cheese, try aged cheddar or blue cheese where the wine's intensity can match the strong flavours.

The unanimous acclaim from multiple respected critics (96-97 points) reflects the wine's exceptional balance between power and finesse. Critics recognise the vineyard's premium altitude site, the concentrated fruit quality from low yields, and the winemaker's skill in preserving both intensity and elegance. When diverse palates consistently rate a wine this highly, it indicates a truly outstanding example that transcends individual preferences and showcases textbook regional character.

The Black Market Deal format typically indicates this is a premium wine offered at exceptional value, often from a renowned producer whose identity remains undisclosed. Given the outstanding critical scores and detailed vineyard provenance from Rowland Flat's elevated sites, this represents access to what would normally be a much more expensive, highly sought-after Barossa Shiraz. The numbered deal system suggests limited availability of these specially sourced premium wines.
