"This has to sit at the top of my list of the most exciting Barossa shiraz that I have drunk in my career. It's complex, it's intriguing, and it's just bloody delicious" -Tully, Wine Buyer

Why do we love this wine?

Richly dark and complex wine. Chocolate and dark, ripe fruit, a little Christmas cakey in parts. The tannin profile is broad and ripe, grappling with the gums but not leaving them dry and wanting. The dense fruit core drives up the centre of the palate and lingers on through the length of the finish. Blackberry, tobacco, earth, fruit leather, orange peel. This is a prime example of how premium wine can look so good in relative youth - there's still a tightness to the palate, but its focused and direct. Should you wish to cellar it, it'll reward patience. A drink some now, drink some later wine if I've ever seen one. Every critic under the sun gave this wine a rave review, and I can see why.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2021 Shiraz has earned outstanding scores from multiple respected critics, including 97 points from Wine Orbit and 96 points from QWine Reviews, because it demonstrates the perfect balance between immediate drinkability and long-term cellaring potential. The wine showcases the hallmarks of premium Barossa Shiraz - intense dark fruit concentration, complex spice notes, and well-integrated tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the palate. Critics particularly praised its ability to display both power and finesse, a combination that's challenging to achieve in full-bodied reds.

Barossa Valley's warm continental climate and ancient soils create ideal conditions for producing intensely flavoured, full-bodied Shiraz with exceptional depth and complexity. The region's old vine Shiraz plantings, some dating back over 150 years, contribute to the concentrated fruit flavours and earthy undertones found in this wine. Barossa Shiraz typically exhibits richer chocolate and spice characteristics compared to cooler climate expressions, while maintaining the variety's signature pepper and dark fruit profile that has made it Australia's most celebrated red wine style.

Serve this Shiraz at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics of chocolate, tobacco, and dark fruit to fully express themselves. Decanting for 30-60 minutes will help soften the robust tannins and integrate the wine's various flavour components. The wine's rich, full-bodied character makes it an excellent match for grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or hearty stews where its intensity won't be overwhelmed by bold flavours.

This Shiraz demonstrates excellent cellaring potential due to its structured tannin profile and concentrated fruit core, typical of premium Barossa expressions. While delicious now, the wine's tightness suggests it will continue developing complexity over the next 8-12 years, with the chocolate and spice notes becoming more integrated and secondary flavours of leather and earth becoming more prominent. The 2021 vintage was particularly favourable in Barossa, providing the ideal balance of ripeness and acidity needed for long-term ageing.

The wine's rich chocolate and dark fruit characteristics, combined with its earthy tobacco notes, make it superb with char-grilled lamb, beef brisket, or mature hard cheeses like aged cheddar or Parmigiano-Reggiano. The Christmas cake-like spice elements also pair beautifully with dishes featuring warm spices such as Moroccan tagines or Indian curry. For a more adventurous pairing, try it with dark chocolate desserts where the wine's natural chocolate notes will create a harmonious flavour bridge.
