Why do we love this wine?

Gee this winery is popular with our mofo members. From quaffers all the way to super premiums like this one, y’all can’t seem to get enough, and for good reason. This wine will exceed your expectations; with layers of flavourful complexity, you’ll discover something new with every sip.

Still in its youth (from the brilliant 2021 vintage) the wine opens with an array of forest fruits of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripened plums. Non fruit characteristics are already shining through, especially over the palate where you’ll be treated to notes of dark chocolate, fresh coffee bean and dustings of cacao. The tannins are fine grained. The length on the finish just keeps going and the 15 months this shiraz spent in french oak prior to bottling ensures you can cellar this and revel in its maturity for years to come.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2021 Shiraz earned exceptional scores (97pts Wine Pilot, 96pts Wine Orbit) due to its remarkable complexity and ageing potential. The 15 months in French oak has created a wine with multiple flavour layers - from primary forest fruits to sophisticated secondary notes of dark chocolate and coffee bean. Barossa Valley's warm climate and ancient soils produce Shiraz with this kind of intensity and structure, making it a benchmark region for the varietal globally.

This full-bodied Shiraz is built for extended cellaring, with fine-grained tannins and excellent structure indicating it will develop beautifully over the next 10-15 years. The 2021 vintage was particularly successful in Barossa, providing ideal ripening conditions that created wines with both power and elegance. As it matures, expect the primary fruit flavours to integrate further with the oak, developing tertiary characteristics like leather, tobacco, and earthy complexity.

The rich, full-bodied profile with mocha and plum notes makes this Shiraz perfect for hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb, beef brisket, or aged hard cheeses. The wine's chocolate and coffee bean characteristics complement dishes with similar flavour profiles - think barbecued meats with dark sauces or even dark chocolate desserts. The fine-grained tannins provide enough structure to cut through rich, fatty foods while the fruit concentration won't be overwhelmed.

Black Market deals allow premium wineries to offer their wines at significantly reduced prices without affecting their regular retail relationships or brand positioning. This creates a win-win situation where wine lovers access exceptional quality at lower prices, while producers can move stock without devaluing their brand. Given this wine's outstanding ratings and Barossa provenance, you're likely getting a wine that normally retails for considerably more.

Being a young, powerful Shiraz from 2021, this wine will benefit from decanting for at least an hour to allow the concentrated flavours to open up properly. Initially, you'll encounter intense blackcurrant and blackberry aromas, followed by the more complex notes of dark chocolate and fresh coffee bean as it breathes. The wine's youth means it may seem tight at first, but patience will be rewarded as the layers of complexity unfold in your glass.
