Fruit from two ancient-vine sources in McLaren Vale are blended to create this powerful shiraz. It’s crafted by one of the region’s masters, a man that knows how to squeeze every ounce of personality out of a grape and this one certainly isn’t shy.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

30 months in 100% French oak tells us a lot about this wine. It tells us that this will age for a very very long time. It also tells us that the fruit in this wine is extremely concetrated. Most importantly though, it tells us how highly the winemakers prize this wine, you don't waste good oak on bad wine. This one's a cracker! Dense and dark with black fruits, overt toasty oak (well integrated, of course), spice, nougat and earthier notes. This is one of those wines for a cold night reclined in your most comfortable chair next to a roaring fire. Anything less would be a disservice to what’s in the bottle. We trust you’re up to the task at hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

The extended 30-month French oak maturation indicates exceptional fruit concentration and the winemaker's confidence in this wine's premium quality. French oak imparts more subtle, elegant tannins compared to American oak, while the lengthy aging period allows for complete integration of oak flavours without overwhelming the fruit. This investment in time and expensive cooperage signals a wine built for serious cellaring potential, often reserved for a producer's flagship bottlings.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils create perfect conditions for concentrated, full-bodied Shiraz like this one. The region's warm days and cool sea breezes from the nearby coast help retain acidity while achieving optimal ripeness. The area's old vine plantings, combined with varied soil types from sand to clay, contribute to the wine's complexity and the intense black fruit character that can handle 30 months of oak aging.

Given the 30-month French oak treatment and 95-point rating, this Shiraz is built for extended cellaring of 15-20 years or more. The concentrated fruit structure and integrated oak will continue evolving, developing secondary characters like leather, tobacco, and earthy complexity. The wine's full-bodied nature and old vine fruit provide the backbone necessary for long-term aging, though it's already drinking beautifully now for those who prefer primary fruit flavours.

This wine's rich, oaky profile and chocolate-plum flavours make it perfect for hearty winter dishes like slow-braised beef, lamb shanks, or aged steaks. The oak integration and full body can stand up to strong flavours like blue cheese, while the wine's earthier notes complement game meats beautifully. For vegetarian options, try it with mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses - the wine's complexity will enhance rather than overpower these dishes.

A 95-point rating from Wine Orbit places this Shiraz in the 'outstanding' category, representing exceptional quality that's rarely achieved. This score, combined with the Five Star Halliday Rated Winery designation, indicates consistent excellence from the producer. Such high ratings typically reflect perfect balance between fruit concentration, oak integration, and aging potential - exactly what you'd expect from a wine that justifies 30 months in premium French oak barrels.
