Polished but powerful. A celebration of red and dark fruits with mocha and liquorice nuances thrown in for good measure. Finessed and incredibly fine-grained savoury tannins.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Wonderfully textured, the wine is built around a long mineral acidity which carries intensity through the palate. White pepper, cedar and elegant allspice notes linger throughout the lengthy, linear finish. Matured for 20 months in 85% new French, 5% New American and 10% Seasoned French Oak hogshead barrels - drink it now or dig a hole in your backyard and forget about it. You could age this one for 15 years if you wanted but we're willing to bet you won't be able to keep your hands off it for that long!

Frequently Asked Questions

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils create perfect conditions for full-bodied Shiraz like this 2020 vintage. The region's warm days and cool sea breezes from the Gulf St Vincent help develop the wine's characteristic mineral acidity while maintaining the rich fruit concentration. This terroir contributes to the wine's ability to showcase both power and elegance, with the mineral backbone providing structure for the cedar and spice notes to develop beautifully over time.

The 20-month maturation in predominantly new French oak (85%) creates the wine's sophisticated cedar and allspice characteristics, while the small portion of American oak adds subtle vanilla undertones. The seasoned French oak component provides integration without overwhelming the fruit, allowing the white pepper notes to shine through. This careful oak program builds the wine's textural complexity and contributes to its impressive 15-year ageing potential.

The wine's long mineral acidity acts as a natural preservative, providing the structural backbone needed for extended cellaring. Combined with the full-bodied palate weight and quality oak integration, this creates a wine that will continue developing complexity over 15 years. The tannin structure from the new French oak and the concentrated fruit from the excellent 2020 vintage provide the foundation for graceful evolution, with the tobacco and cedar notes likely to become more pronounced with time.

The wine's rich, full-bodied character and cedar-spice notes make it perfect for grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with peppercorn sauce. The mineral acidity cuts through rich, fatty dishes while the tobacco and plum flavours complement game meats and aged cheeses beautifully. The wine's textural complexity also pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked dishes like braised short ribs or hearty stews where the cedar and allspice notes can harmonise with similar cooking spices.

A 4.2 Vivino rating places this wine in the 'very good' to 'excellent' category, reflecting consistent quality across multiple vintages from this producer. Combined with the Five Star Halliday Winery rating, this indicates a producer with a proven track record of crafting premium Shiraz. These ratings suggest the wine offers exceptional value, particularly considering its complex oak program and ageing potential, making it a smart choice for both immediate enjoyment and cellar investment.
