A wax dipped, deeply layered beauty out of the hands of one of Barossa's most adored producers. Macerated plums, fresh vanilla pods, cracked pepper and roasted coffee beans are just some of the layers that you can expect here. If you're a fan of indulgent reds, then this is one you can't miss.

Why do we love this wine?

You know when something seems too good to be true? That's what we thought of this wine before we got stuck in. I mean, a revered Barossa producer, with a premium, wax-dipped shiraz that received a glowing 95pt Halliday review that we could sell for... how much? Sure enough, when it hit the tasting bench, it surpassed all expectations by miles. This isn't just any wine of high calibre, this is an awe-inspiring Barossa shiraz. Given this winery is all about their heritage estate vineyards, I guess we should never have been surprised at how good this could get.

Frequently Asked Questions

This exceptional Shiraz earned its 96-point Wine Orbit rating through the perfect marriage of heritage estate vineyards and premium winemaking techniques. The wax-dipped presentation indicates the producer's commitment to preserving the wine's quality, while the full-bodied structure showcases classic Barossa terroir. The convergence of blackberry intensity, liquorice complexity, and spice integration demonstrates why critics consistently rate this wine in the mid-90s across multiple publications.

The 2019 vintage in Barossa was characterised by excellent growing conditions that produced wines with exceptional concentration and balance. This particular bottling benefits from optimal ripening that enhanced the natural blackberry and spice characteristics typical of premium Barossa Shiraz. The vintage's success is reflected in the wine's ability to achieve such high critical acclaim from multiple respected wine publications, indicating it represents one of the standout expressions from this renowned region.

The wine's rich blackberry fruit and liquorice notes make it an ideal companion for robust red meats, particularly char-grilled steaks or slow-cooked lamb shanks. The spice elements complement dishes with pepper crusts or herb-heavy marinades, while the full-bodied structure can stand up to aged cheeses and charcuterie. For best results, serve at cellar temperature around 16-18°C to allow the complex flavour profile to fully express itself.

Premium wines often become available at exceptional prices due to various commercial factors unrelated to quality - perhaps cellar space requirements, distributor changes, or strategic inventory management. The wax-dipped presentation and heritage estate vineyard sourcing indicate this is genuinely a premium product from a revered producer. Sometimes the wine trade's loss becomes the consumer's gain, offering access to critically acclaimed wines that would normally command much higher prices.

Given its full-bodied structure, premium Barossa provenance, and 95+ point ratings, this Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential of 8-12 years from vintage. The wine's concentration and tannin structure, evidenced by its blackberry and spice complexity, suggest it will continue developing additional layers of flavour over time. The wax seal also provides superior protection during extended cellaring, making this an excellent candidate for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term storage in proper cellar conditions.
