A wax dipped, deeply layered beauty out of the hands of one of Barossa's most adored producers. Macerated plums, fresh vanilla pods, cracked pepper and roasted coffee beans are just some of the layers that you can expect here. If you're a fan of indulgent reds, then this is one you can't miss.

Why do we love this wine?

You know when something seems too good to be true? That's what we thought of this wine before we got stuck in. I mean, a revered Barossa producer, with a premium, wax-dipped shiraz that received a glowing 95pt Halliday review that we could sell for... how much? Sure enough, when it hit the tasting bench, it surpassed all expectations by miles. This isn't just any wine of high calibre, this is an awe-inspiring Barossa shiraz. Given this winery is all about their heritage estate vineyards, I guess we should never have been surprised at how good this could get.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine earned outstanding scores including 96 points from Wine Orbit and 95 points from James Halliday because it exemplifies everything great about Barossa Shiraz. The combination of heritage estate vineyards, premium wax-dipped presentation, and the region's ideal terroir for Shiraz creates a wine that showcases the variety's potential for power, complexity, and elegance. The Barossa's warm climate and ancient soils produce Shiraz with incredible concentration and distinctive regional character.

These classic Barossa Shiraz flavours work in beautiful harmony - the rich blackberry fruit provides the wine's core, while liquorice adds depth and earthiness that's characteristic of premium Australian Shiraz. The spice elements likely include white and black pepper, along with warming baking spices from oak maturation. This flavour profile is quintessentially Barossa, where the warm climate concentrates fruit flavours while the region's unique terroir contributes those distinctive savoury and spice notes.

Heritage estate vineyards typically feature old vines, often decades old, which produce smaller yields of more concentrated, complex fruit. These established vineyard sites have proven their ability to consistently produce exceptional grapes over many vintages. The deep root systems of mature vines access different soil layers, contributing to the wine's complexity and distinctive terroir expression that younger vineyards simply cannot achieve.

The 2019 vintage in Barossa was characterised by ideal growing conditions that allowed Shiraz to reach perfect ripeness while maintaining excellent natural acidity. This balance is crucial for full-bodied reds, as it provides structure and ensures the wine ages gracefully. The vintage's success is reflected in the numerous high-scoring wines from this year, with many producers considering it one of their finest recent vintages for premium red wine production.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics to fully express themselves - too warm and the alcohol dominates, too cool and you'll miss the beautiful fruit and spice nuances. The full-bodied, rich style pairs magnificently with grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or hearty dishes with rich sauces. Consider decanting for 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to open up and show its true character.
