We gotta say, when did 2019 start feeling like forever ago? Well, in the eyes of a bottled wine, we’re starting to call that aged. Classic Barossa with a lick of age.

Why do we love this wine?

For classic Barossa Valley shiraz like this, we often need a little time to chill, and after a long lie-down, this number is coming at us with energy, vibrance, and intensity. Vanilla and blackcurrants galore, with cherry, anise and violets playing their part too. Is that a whiff of pepper, I sense? I think indeed it is. The mark of a good craftsperson, there is certainly nothing to fault here.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Barossa Valley's warm continental climate and ancient soils create shiraz with exceptional concentration and power. This 2019 example showcases the region's signature vanilla and blackcurrant intensity, enhanced by the valley's ability to produce wines with remarkable depth and spice complexity. The region's old vine heritage and traditional winemaking methods contribute to the full-bodied character and peppery finish that defines premium Barossa shiraz.

The 2019 vintage has had sufficient time to integrate its tannins and develop secondary flavours, which explains the wine's current vibrant energy and complexity. While already drinking beautifully with its cherry and violet notes emerging, this full-bodied shiraz has the structure to continue evolving for another 5-8 years. The vintage's balance of fruit concentration and natural acidity ensures excellent cellaring potential.

This rich, full-bodied shiraz with its blackcurrant and vanilla profile pairs magnificently with grilled red meats, particularly lamb with rosemary or beef with peppercorn sauce. The wine's anise and violet notes complement game dishes and aged cheeses beautifully. For vegetarian options, try it with mushroom-based dishes or roasted eggplant with herbs - the wine's spice complexity enhances earthy flavours wonderfully.

The 95-point Wine Orbit rating and Gold Medal recognition reflect the wine's exceptional balance of power and finesse. Critics have praised its seamless integration of classic Barossa characteristics - the vanilla oak, intense fruit concentration, and signature pepper spice - with remarkable craftsmanship. The consistent high ratings across multiple platforms indicate this represents outstanding value for a premium Barossa shiraz of this calibre.

Black Market Deals typically indicate premium wines offered at exceptional value, often from renowned producers who prefer to remain anonymous. This allows access to high-quality Barossa shiraz that would normally command much higher prices in the market. The wine's impressive ratings and complex flavour profile suggest it comes from an established winery with serious credentials, making it an excellent opportunity for wine lovers seeking premium quality at accessible pricing.
