Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Deep, dark ripe fruit dazzles to begin, but then the nuance of age makes itself known, adding another element to this fantastic wine. A swarm of brambly, developed fruit is framed by punchy tannin and well integrated acidity. Seven years cellar time has allowed some fruit leather and umami to enter the flavour profile, but they're only there as a suggestion of what this wine might do over the next decade - right now its all about the fruit - luscious and complex and packing a genuine, no-holds-barred bit of punch. Chocolate, tobacco, pepper, spice – everything nice. We're a bit torn: we'd love to see what this wine looks like in the back half of the 2030s, but we know we'll drink our modest allocation by the end of the month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Seven years of cellar time has transformed this Barossa Shiraz into something truly exceptional. The extended ageing has developed complex secondary flavours like fruit leather and umami notes, while maintaining the wine's core of luscious dark fruit. This maturation period represents the sweet spot where primary fruit characters are enhanced rather than diminished by age, creating layers of complexity that younger wines simply cannot achieve.

Receiving 95 points from both Wine Orbit and Wine Pilot is remarkable, as it indicates consistent recognition of exceptional quality across multiple expert palates. These scores place this Shiraz in the top tier of Australian wines, suggesting outstanding balance, complexity, and ageing potential. Such unanimous high scoring from respected critics typically indicates a wine that delivers both immediate pleasure and long-term cellaring rewards.

This powerful, full-bodied Shiraz with its chocolate, tobacco, and spice notes pairs beautifully with rich, flavourful dishes. Think slow-cooked lamb shanks, grilled ribeye steak, or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar. The wine's punchy tannins and integrated acidity make it ideal for cutting through fatty meats, while its complex fruit and spice profile complements dishes with herbs like rosemary and thyme.

This wine presents a delicious dilemma - it's drinking magnificently now with its luscious fruit at the forefront, yet shows tremendous potential for further development into the 2030s. Currently, you'll enjoy the perfect balance of mature complexity and vibrant fruit character. However, if you can resist temptation, additional cellaring will likely develop more tertiary flavours and soften the tannins further, creating an even more sophisticated drinking experience.

The Barossa Valley's warm, dry climate and ancient soils create perfect conditions for producing concentrated, age-worthy Shiraz. The region's old vine plantings, some over 100 years old, naturally limit yields and concentrate flavours, resulting in wines with the depth and structure evident in this bottle. The valley's consistent vintage conditions allow winemakers to craft Shiraz with the power and elegance that has made Barossa synonymous with world-class Australian red wine.
