Why do we love this wine?

Eden Valley, the Barossa region's slightly cooler-climate jewel, produces some of the most cellar-worthy and delicious Shiraz in Australia (Hill of Grace, anyone?). ‎We're lucky enough to be bringing you this incredible expression of shriaz from this highly revered region. The 50 year old vines from which this fruit came provide incredible concentration and stunning backbone to a shiraz of incredible integrity.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Eden Valley sits at higher altitude within the Barossa region, creating a cooler climate that allows Shiraz grapes to ripen more slowly and retain better natural acidity. This cooler environment produces wines with more elegance and structure compared to the warmer valley floor, resulting in Shiraz that's both powerful and refined. The region is home to legendary vineyards like Hill of Grace, establishing Eden Valley as the premium sub-region for age-worthy Australian Shiraz.

Old vines naturally produce lower yields but dramatically higher quality fruit, as their deep root systems access minerals and water sources that young vines cannot reach. These mature vines create grapes with incredible concentration of flavours and tannins, providing the backbone for wines with exceptional aging potential. The stress of age also forces vines to focus their energy into fewer, more intensely flavoured berries, explaining why this wine achieved Top 10 recognition globally.

The wine's umami and black olive characteristics make it exceptional with grilled red meats, particularly lamb with Mediterranean herbs or beef with mushroom-based sauces. The black cherry notes complement game meats like venison, while the full-bodied structure can handle rich, aged cheeses and charcuterie. For vegetarian options, try it with roasted eggplant dishes or mushroom risotto to echo those savoury umami qualities.

This Eden Valley Shiraz from 2017 is beautifully drinking now, having had six years to integrate its tannins and develop complexity. However, given the old vine fruit source and the region's reputation for producing cellar-worthy wines, it has excellent aging potential for another 10-15 years. The wine's full-bodied structure and concentrated fruit will continue evolving, developing more tertiary flavours like leather, tobacco, and spice with proper cellaring.

This prestigious London Wine Competition award places this wine among Australia's finest Shiraz expressions, competing against thousands of entries from renowned producers across all price points. The recognition is particularly significant as it acknowledges not just quality, but the wine's ability to represent Australian Shiraz excellence on the global stage. Such accolades from international competitions validate the exceptional fruit quality from those 50-year-old Eden Valley vines and the winemaker's skill in crafting a world-class expression.
