Concentration, spice, and all things nice. Perfumed red cherries and plums, with smooth chocolatey notes and a gorgeously rich texture. Pure McLaren Vale magic. A decent stint in the cellar leaves us with a deeply smooth wine with complexity and flavour coming out its ears.

Why do we love this wine?

Year in, year out, this wine knocks our socks off, but we've been impatiently waiting for this. The back vintage! Finally, the very same one we've loved, all this time, AGED and ready to rock and roll! It could be McLaren Vale etching it's way further and further into our hearts. It could be the fastidious and integrated use of oak barrels. It could be because we flat out just love shiraz. Or, we could love it because you folks love it. Whatever it is, it steals our heart every time, and we're proud to be able to present it to you at such phenomenal value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Museum releases represent wines that have been cellared by the winery for extended periods, allowing them to develop complex secondary and tertiary flavours. This 2015 McLaren Vale Shiraz has had nearly a decade to evolve, transforming from its youthful fruit-forward character into a more sophisticated wine with integrated tannins and nuanced flavours. The extended ageing has allowed the oak to marry seamlessly with the fruit, creating the leather and tobacco notes that define mature Shiraz.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool sea breezes from the Gulf St Vincent, creates perfect conditions for Shiraz ripening. The region's diverse soils, from red clay over limestone to sandy loam, contribute to the complexity and structure that McLaren Vale Shiraz is renowned for. This terroir produces full-bodied wines with intense fruit concentration while maintaining natural acidity, explaining why this wine has earned such prestigious ratings from multiple critics.

The black cherry represents the wine's primary fruit character, which remains vibrant even after ageing due to Shiraz's naturally robust structure. Leather notes emerge through the interaction of tannins and acids over time, creating savoury complexity that balances the fruit sweetness. Tobacco flavours develop from both oak maturation and bottle ageing, where compounds transform to create these distinctive earthy, spicy characteristics that are hallmarks of well-aged Australian Shiraz.

Receiving 95 points from both James Halliday Wine Companion and Wine Orbit indicates exceptional quality, as these are two highly respected but independent wine rating systems. This dual recognition suggests the wine demonstrates outstanding balance, complexity, and ageing potential that appeals to different critical palates. Such consistent high scoring across multiple critics is rare and typically reserved for wines that represent the pinnacle of their region and variety.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its complex flavours to fully express themselves - too warm and the alcohol will dominate, too cool and you'll miss the nuanced leather and tobacco notes. The full-bodied nature and mature tannin structure make it perfect for rich, flavourful dishes like slow-cooked lamb, aged beef, or strong cheeses. Consider decanting 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the wine to breathe and fully showcase its developed character.
