The best thing about Magnums is the way they age, although tertiary, soft and smooth, the bigger bottle (less exposure to oxygen etc etc) leaves the wine with slightly more fruit than its smaller bottled counterparts. All you could ask for in a museum release Barossa shiraz. This gorgeous wine spent over 10 years in the cellar, developing patiently preparing to be the centrepiece of any gathering.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Intense and concentrated with warming spice, dark fruits and oak-driven vanilla notes - and that's just the nose. The aging process has instilled a complexity and elegance that's evident in this wine right from the outset and carries through the palate. Beautifully textured, with velvet-like tannins and rich dark cherries and blackberries, there's no shortage of flavour from start to (long long long) finish. Barossa shiraz is famous the world over for it's potential to age, well there's nothing 'potential' about this drop. Tried and tasted, this wine shows us exactly why people all round the globe are lining up for the good stuff.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 1.5L magnum format offers several advantages for this premium Eden Valley Shiraz. Magnums age more gracefully due to the slower oxygen exchange through the cork relative to the wine volume, which helps preserve the wine's intensity and allows for more elegant development of those complex spice and dark fruit characteristics. For a wine with this aging potential, the magnum format ensures optimal cellaring conditions while also making an impressive statement for special occasions.

While both regions are part of the greater Barossa zone, Eden Valley sits at higher altitude with cooler temperatures than the Barossa Valley floor. This elevation creates more elegant, structured Shiraz with pronounced spice notes and refined tannins - exactly what you'll find in this bottle. The cooler climate helps retain natural acidity, contributing to the wine's aging potential and the beautiful textural balance between power and elegance that distinguishes Eden Valley expressions.

The 2015 vintage in Eden Valley was characterised by ideal growing conditions that produced wines with exceptional concentration and balance. After nearly a decade of bottle aging, this Shiraz has developed the complex secondary characteristics mentioned in the tasting notes - those oak-driven vanilla notes have integrated beautifully with the fruit, while the tannins have evolved to that described velvet-like texture. This demonstrates exactly why Australian Shiraz from quality producers can rival the world's best age-worthy reds.

Decant this wine 1-2 hours before serving to allow the concentrated flavours to open up and showcase the full complexity that has developed over nine years. Serve at 16-18°C to highlight both the rich dark fruit characteristics and the subtle spice nuances. Given its full-bodied nature and velvet-like tannins, pair it with robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb, aged beef, or strong cheeses that can match the wine's intensity and complement those dark chocolate and plum flavours.

A 4.3 rating on Vivino places this wine in the top tier of user-rated wines, indicating exceptional quality that resonates with wine drinkers globally. This high rating, combined with recognition as a 'Killer Vintage' from a 'Single Vineyard' and 'Boutique Producer', suggests you're getting access to a premium wine that would typically command much higher prices in retail. The consistency across multiple quality indicators reinforces that this represents outstanding value for a mature, complex Australian Shiraz.
