...few names carry the same weight as this crew, and this shiraz right here is their flagship. It reflects both the legacy of the region and the timeless beauty of old-vine fruit. This thing is absolutely singing right now. There's plenty of life left, but it's drinking so well today that we're already opening bottles.

Why do we love this wine?

Sourced exclusively from old vine blocks in the Southern Barossa, these low-yielding vines produce tiny, concentrated berries bursting with flavour. The result is a shiraz that captures everything we love about the Barossa: richness, intensity, and a savoury depth that only old vines can deliver. On the nose, it’s classic Barossa in full voice: dark chocolate, spice and savoury earth, lifted by plum and blackberry fruit. Take a sip and it starts plush and generous, a rush of ripe dark berries, before shifting into more complex territory - iodine, peat smoke, roasted spice, even a touch of leather. The tannins are ripe and smooth, the acidity perfectly pitched, and the oak just hums in the background. The finish is long, elegant, and beautifully balanced. This is the kind of shiraz that works now with something rich and slow-cooked - we're thinking beef cheeks or lamb shoulder - but it’s also built with the bones to go another 3-5+ years in the cellar. Barossa at its best: bold, detailed and damn satisfying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Old vines produce significantly lower yields but much more concentrated fruit, as their deep root systems access minerals and water sources that younger vines cannot reach. In the Barossa's unique terroir, these mature vines create wines with exceptional complexity and savoury depth that simply cannot be replicated by younger plantings. The concentrated berries from these low-yielding blocks result in wines with greater intensity, more complex tannin structures, and the ability to age gracefully for decades.

This wine is already drinking beautifully at 10 years of age, showing the perfect balance between fruit freshness and developed complexity. The robust tannin structure and excellent acidity suggest it has another 3-5 years of positive development ahead, potentially reaching 15+ years total cellar life. Barossa Shiraz from quality producers often hits a sweet spot around 8-12 years, where primary fruit integrates seamlessly with secondary characters like leather, earth, and spice.

The wine's rich, savoury profile and smooth tannins make it ideal for slow-cooked red meats like beef cheeks, lamb shoulder, or braised short ribs. The earthy, smoky notes complement grilled meats beautifully, while the wine's intensity can stand up to bold flavours like aged cheeses or mushroom-based dishes. The key is matching the wine's weight and complexity with equally substantial foods that won't be overwhelmed by its full-bodied character.

Black Market Deals typically indicate premium wines offered at exceptional value, often from renowned producers who prefer to remain anonymous or sell excess stock discreetly. The 5-star Halliday winery rating and 'Iconic Producer' status suggest this comes from a highly respected Barossa estate. These deals allow wine lovers to access premium quality at prices significantly below what the wine would normally retail for under its full label.

2014 was an excellent vintage in the Barossa, characterised by ideal ripening conditions that produced wines with great concentration and balance. The vintage allowed for extended hang time, developing the complex flavour profile evident in this wine's combination of ripe fruit and savoury elements. At 10 years of age, this wine is now showing the beautiful integration of fruit, oak, and tannins that makes 2014 Barossa Shiraz particularly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
