Concentration, spice, and all things nice. Perfumed red cherries and plums, with smooth chocolatey notes and a gorgeously rich texture. Pure McLaren Vale magic. A decent stint in the cellar leaves us with a deeply smooth wine with complexity and flavour coming out its ears.

Why do we love this wine?

Year in, year out, this wine knocks our socks off, but we've been impatiently waiting for this. The back vintage! Finally, the very same one we've loved, all this time, AGED and ready to rock and roll! It could be McLaren Vale etching it's way further and further into our hearts. It could be the fastidious and integrated use of oak barrels. It could be because we flat out just love shiraz. Or, we could love it because you folks love it. Whatever it is, it steals our heart every time, and we're proud to be able to present it to you at such phenomenal value.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 2014 McLaren Vale Shiraz represents a museum release - meaning it's been carefully cellared and aged to perfection before release. The extended bottle ageing has allowed the wine's tannins to soften and integrate beautifully, while developing complex tertiary flavours that complement the primary black cherry and chocolate notes. Museum releases like this offer wine lovers the rare opportunity to experience a mature vintage without having to cellar it themselves for nearly a decade.

McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils create ideal conditions for producing rich, full-bodied Shiraz with exceptional depth. The region's warm days and cool sea breezes from the nearby Gulf St Vincent help maintain acidity while allowing full phenolic ripeness. This terroir contributes to the wine's signature black cherry intensity and supports the cedar notes that develop through careful oak integration, making McLaren Vale one of Australia's most celebrated Shiraz regions.

The wine's rich black cherry and chocolate flavours, enhanced by cedar complexity, make it perfect for hearty red meat dishes like grilled lamb, beef steaks, or slow-cooked beef bourguignon. The full-bodied structure can stand up to strong flavours like aged cheeses, barbecued meats with smoky marinades, or even dark chocolate desserts. The wine's maturity and integrated tannins also complement game meats and dishes with earthy mushroom or truffle elements.

Serve this museum release at 16-18°C to showcase its complex aromatics and full-bodied structure - slightly cooler than room temperature brings out the best balance. Decant 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the mature wine to open up and reveal its cedar and chocolate nuances. While already perfectly aged for drinking, this wine can continue to develop for another 3-5 years if stored properly in a cool, dark place at consistent temperature.

The combination of Five Star Halliday Winery status, Outstanding Robert Parker rating, and strong 4.2 Vivino scores across all vintages indicates exceptional quality and consistency from this producer. These ratings from diverse critics - from Australia's most respected wine authority to international experts and consumer reviews - suggest the wine delivers both technical excellence and broad appeal. The museum release designation further validates that this vintage has been deemed worthy of extended ageing by the winemaker.
