Why do we love this wine?

'McLaren Vale shiraz', pretty much all you need to say to get us salivating, add in 'single-vineyard museum release', and we're chomping at the metaphorical bit. From one of the industry's most well-known and instantly recognisable producers, this beautiful drop is equally at home now with a hearty meal, or in the cellar for the next 10 years. Each single-vineyard has distinct feel and flavour, this is no different. Black cherry, mulberry, vanilla and cocoa, a touch of mint and silky-but-robust tannins holding the whole thing together. This is Vale shiraz at its peak.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a single-vineyard museum release from an iconic McLaren Vale producer, meaning it comes from one specific plot of vines rather than blended fruit, and has been aged to perfection before release. McLaren Vale is renowned for producing some of Australia's most distinctive Shiraz, with the region's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils creating wines with exceptional depth and character. The single-vineyard designation ensures you're tasting the pure expression of that particular terroir, while the museum release status indicates this wine has been carefully cellared to reach optimal drinking condition.

This full-bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz has excellent cellaring potential and can be enjoyed now or stored for up to 10 more years. The wine's robust tannin structure and concentrated fruit flavours provide the backbone needed for extended ageing, while the 2014 vintage was particularly favourable in McLaren Vale. As it ages, expect the primary fruit flavours to evolve into more complex tertiary notes, with the tannins softening and integrating further. The fact it's already a museum release means it's drinking beautifully now, but patient collectors will be rewarded with even greater complexity.

This rich, full-bodied Shiraz with its black cherry, mulberry and cocoa notes pairs magnificently with hearty red meat dishes like grilled lamb, beef steaks, or slow-cooked braised dishes. The wine's savoury elements and silky tannins complement the umami flavours in aged cheeses and charcuterie, while the touch of mint makes it particularly suited to herb-crusted roasts. The robust structure can stand up to bold flavours like barbecued meats with smoky marinades, and the vanilla notes from oak ageing create beautiful harmony with dishes featuring similar spice profiles.

James Suckling's 93-point rating places this Shiraz in the 'outstanding' category, indicating exceptional quality that stands well above average wines. Suckling is particularly respected for his expertise in rating full-bodied reds and has extensive experience with Australian wines, making his assessment highly relevant for this McLaren Vale Shiraz. A 93-point score suggests the wine demonstrates excellent balance, complexity, and ageing potential, with distinctive varietal character and regional expression. This rating, combined with the wine's museum release status and single-vineyard pedigree, confirms you're getting a premium example of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Expect a complex flavour journey starting with rich dark fruits like black cherry and mulberry, followed by indulgent notes of vanilla and cocoa from careful oak treatment. The wine's savoury character adds depth and sophistication, while a distinctive touch of mint provides freshness and regional character typical of quality McLaren Vale Shiraz. The silky-but-robust tannins create excellent mouthfeel and structure, ensuring the wine feels substantial without being overwhelming. This combination of fruit richness, oak integration, and savoury complexity represents McLaren Vale Shiraz at its finest expression.
