These vines are sandwiched directly between the Mt Edelstone and Hill of Grace vineyards, so it's no surprise this producer is one of Barossa's icons. Dense, dark-fruited, rich and complex, this is aged Australian wine in its purest form. This is phenomenal wine.

Why do we love this wine?

This isn't a wine that has sat in the cellar in the hope of turning into something special. Museum releases are a bit different. This was built to age, stored professionally, cared for and diligently tasted along its journey until the optimum time for release, and that brings us to now. Plummy and spicy on the nose with herbal undertones and hints of pepper. The palate is completely indulgent; rich, concentrated red and black fruits, a slight earthiness (typical of the vineyard) and bright white pepper complimented by cedar-y oak and mouth-coating tannins that linger through the long, spiced plum, and christmas cake finish. Iconic vines, iconic winemaker, iconic wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Museum releases represent the pinnacle of winemaking patience and expertise. Unlike regular wines that are released shortly after production, this Shiraz was deliberately held back and professionally stored under optimal conditions for nearly a decade. The winemaker monitored its development through regular tastings, waiting for the perfect moment when all elements - fruit, tannins, and oak - reached harmonious maturity before releasing it to market.

Eden Valley's elevated altitude and cool climate create perfect conditions for producing elegant, structured Shiraz with distinctive character. The region's unique terroir imparts that characteristic earthiness mentioned in this wine's profile, while the cooler temperatures help retain natural acidity and develop complex spice notes. This combination of factors allows Eden Valley Shiraz to age gracefully while maintaining freshness and developing those sought-after white pepper characteristics.

Serve this museum release at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics to fully express themselves. Decant for at least 30 minutes before serving to help soften those mouth-coating tannins and allow the concentrated fruit flavours to open up. The wine's rich, indulgent character pairs beautifully with robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb, aged beef, or strong cheeses that can match its intensity.

The Christmas cake finish suggests warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove that develop through extended ageing. This makes it exceptional with rich, spiced dishes such as Moroccan tagines, Indian curries with warming spices, or traditional roasts with herb crusts. The wine's concentrated fruit and spice profile also pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts or aged hard cheeses like vintage cheddar.

While this museum release is drinking beautifully now at its intended peak, quality Eden Valley Shiraz from iconic producers can continue evolving for years. The wine's structured tannins and concentrated fruit suggest it could develop additional complexity over the next 5-8 years, though the winemaker has already determined this is the optimal drinking window. Store it properly on its side in cool, dark conditions if you choose to cellar it longer.
