Highly awarded, and for good reason too. This wine - ten years young - is drinking beautifully.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

It feels a little backwards to say it, but - for me at least - aged wine has got to have something youthful about it to really hit the spot. This does that masterfully with a swirl of red and blue fruit at its core. That fruit is framed by leather, earth, tobacco, umami, chocolate, spice, herby green-ness, and so much more. Old and new. Big and pretty. Robust and stylish. This is a wine that walks the line; intricate and intriguing from start to finish. Most importantly, though: utterly delightful to sit and sip on. Bravo.

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine demonstrates the exceptional ageing potential of premium McLaren Vale Shiraz, particularly from old vines and iconic producers. The 2014 vintage has developed beautiful secondary characteristics like leather, tobacco, and umami while retaining its youthful fruit core. McLaren Vale's Mediterranean climate and ancient soils create wines with the structure and tannin backbone necessary for extended cellaring, allowing complex flavours to integrate harmoniously over time.

McLaren Vale sits between the Adelaide Hills and Gulf St Vincent, creating a unique terroir that produces distinctively rich, full-bodied Shiraz. The region's ancient geological formations and maritime influence contribute to wines with exceptional concentration and complexity. This particular wine showcases the region's ability to balance power with elegance, displaying the characteristic dark fruit intensity alongside earthy, savoury notes that McLaren Vale is renowned for.

Serve this wine at 16-18°C to allow its complex aromatics to fully express themselves - the leather, chocolate, and spice notes need proper temperature to emerge. Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving to help integrate the mature tannins and unlock the intricate layers described in the tasting notes. The wine's robust character pairs beautifully with rich, flavourful dishes like braised lamb, aged cheeses, or dark chocolate desserts.

Old vines, typically 30+ years old, produce smaller yields of more concentrated grapes, resulting in wines with greater depth and complexity. These mature root systems access deeper soil layers and minerals, contributing to the wine's earthy, umami characteristics and exceptional structure. The old vine designation helps explain this wine's remarkable ability to balance power with finesse, and its capacity to develop such intricate flavour layers over its decade of ageing.

This 2014 Shiraz is drinking beautifully now, having reached an ideal maturity where primary fruit and secondary development are perfectly balanced. The tasting notes describe it as 'utterly delightful to sit and sip on', indicating peak drinking condition. However, given its 95-point rating and single vineyard pedigree, it likely has another 5-8 years of graceful evolution ahead, so you can enjoy it now or continue cellaring depending on your preference for more tertiary development.
