Intense and inky. Soft and smooth. All you could ask for in a museum release Barossa shiraz. This gorgeous wine spent over 10 years in the cellar, developing patiently and waiting for its time to shine. Well, the wait is over, the time is now, this magnum is about to take centre stage, at very least, the centre-piece of Christmas lunch.

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Intense liquorice, spicy mocha, blackberry and oak-driven vanilla notes - and that's just the nose. The aging process has instilled a complexity and elegance that's evident in this wine right from the outset and carries through the palate. Beautifully textured, with velvet-like tannins and rich black fruits, there's no shortage of flavour from start to (long long long) finish. Barossa shiraz is famous the world over for it's potential to age, well there's nothing 'potential' about this drop. Tried and tasted, this wine shows us exactly why people all over the globe are lining up for the good stuff.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 1.5L magnum format provides superior aging conditions due to the lower oxygen-to-wine ratio, which allows for slower, more graceful development of complex flavours. This Eden Valley Shiraz has benefited from over a decade of maturation, and the magnum size has helped preserve the wine's intensity while developing those beautiful liquorice and mocha notes. Magnums are also perfect for special occasions and sharing with friends.

Eden Valley sits at higher altitude than the neighbouring Barossa Valley floor, resulting in cooler temperatures that produce more elegant, structured Shiraz with refined tannins. While Barossa Valley Shiraz tends toward power and richness, Eden Valley examples like this 2013 showcase greater finesse and spice complexity. The cooler climate helps retain natural acidity, creating wines with excellent aging potential and the velvet-like texture described in this bottle.

At over 10 years old, this Shiraz is drinking beautifully now, having developed the complex secondary flavours of liquorice, mocha, and oak-driven vanilla that make aged Shiraz so appealing. However, quality Eden Valley Shiraz can continue evolving for 15-20 years, so you could cellar it further if you prefer more tertiary development. The full-bodied structure and evident tannin integration suggest it's entered its optimal drinking window.

Black Market Deals typically indicate wines from premium producers offered at exceptional value, often because the winery prefers to remain anonymous or clear excess stock. The combination of single vineyard fruit, boutique producer status, and strong critical recognition (4.0 Vivino rating) suggests this represents significant savings on what would normally be a much higher-priced Eden Valley Shiraz. These deals offer access to quality wines that might otherwise be beyond typical retail reach.

The rich black fruit flavours, spicy mocha notes, and full-bodied structure make this ideal for robust dishes like slow-cooked lamb, aged beef steaks, or game meats. The dark chocolate and plum characteristics also complement hard cheeses and charcuterie beautifully. Given the wine's elegance and complexity, it would pair wonderfully with dishes featuring earthy mushrooms or herbs like rosemary and thyme that echo the wine's spice profile.
