Yes, we know we can't tell you the producer, BUT, trust us, you'll be blown away when this arrives at your door. Pretty close to as premium as McLaren Vale shiraz can get. Serious collectors would do well to nab this offering while it's around...

Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

This producer is one of McLaren Vale’s greatest of all time and this is a wine that is made only in the greatest of vintages; only the best barrels are chosen to be aged in oak for an additional three years and then laid down to rest. As a result, only a tiny amount of this wine was produced, and we are so lucky to be offering it today. This shiraz is spicy and savoury, with amazing intensity of fruit and well integrated tannin from years just resting in the bottle, ‘polymerising’ aka. getting silky and balanced. Time has also brought all those secondary characters into play, making for a wonderfully layered and deep wine. Awesome length. Very satisfying. A great buy for collectors and drinkers alike!

Frequently Asked Questions

This wine represents the pinnacle of McLaren Vale winemaking, produced only in exceptional vintages from the finest barrels. After initial oak ageing, it underwent an additional three years of maturation before being laid down to rest. The extended bottle age has allowed the tannins to polymerise, creating the silky texture that distinguishes truly great aged Shiraz. This meticulous selection process resulted in extremely limited production, making it a rare find for collectors.

Polymerisation is a chemical process where tannin molecules link together during bottle ageing, transforming harsh, astringent tannins into silky, integrated structures. This natural evolution is why well-aged Shiraz develops such remarkable smoothness and balance. The process also allows primary fruit flavours to integrate with secondary characteristics like cedar and tobacco, creating the complex, layered profile that makes aged McLaren Vale Shiraz so sought after by wine enthusiasts.

The consistently high scores across multiple respected critics (95-97 points) demonstrate exceptional quality and broad critical acclaim. Being ranked #2 Top 2009 McLaren Vale Shiraz by The Real Review places it among the region's finest expressions from this vintage. These ratings reflect not just immediate quality, but the wine's successful development over more than a decade, proving its credentials as both a collector's piece and a drinking wine.

The extended ageing has transformed this wine from primary fruit-driven to a complex, multi-layered experience. The black cherry core now integrates beautifully with secondary characters of cedar and tobacco, typical of well-aged McLaren Vale Shiraz. The spicy, savoury profile indicates the wine has moved beyond simple fruit expression into the tertiary development phase, where earth, leather, and dried herb notes add sophistication and depth to each sip.

This wine is perfectly positioned in its drinking window, having already undergone significant bottle development that has integrated the tannins and developed complex secondary flavours. While McLaren Vale Shiraz of this calibre can continue evolving for years, the current balance of fruit intensity with mature characteristics makes it ideal for immediate enjoyment. The 'awesome length' mentioned indicates the wine has reached that sweet spot where power meets elegance.
