Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Lovers of all that is cellared rejoice - this is a shining example of what good wine can do when it gets the opportunity to gracefully develop. Currants and fruit leather jump out of the glass - a potent and ethereal bouquet. The fruit is ripe yet fresh; plums, dark bramble, and black currant. Worn leather, cedar, a bit of smokey dankness, almost (forgive me) cold campfire-esque. This is 19 years aged and utterly pristine, a complete wine in every sense of the word.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Premium Barossa Shiraz has exceptional ageing potential due to its robust tannin structure and concentrated fruit. This wine demonstrates how proper cellaring allows harsh tannins to soften while developing complex tertiary flavours like leather and cedar. The fact it's described as 'utterly pristine' after nearly two decades shows it was made from quality fruit and stored in optimal conditions.

Barossa Valley's warm climate and ancient soils produce Shiraz with exceptional concentration and power. The region's old vines, some over 100 years old, yield small amounts of intensely flavoured fruit that creates full-bodied wines with remarkable ageing potential. This wine's potent bouquet and complete structure are hallmarks of premium Barossa Shiraz.

Decant this wine 1-2 hours before serving to allow the complex aromatics to fully develop and any sediment to settle. Serve at 16-18°C in large bowls to capture the ethereal bouquet of currants and fruit leather. The wine's textured, savoury profile pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, slow-cooked lamb, or rich game dishes.

Textured refers to the wine's substantial mouthfeel and complex layers that coat your palate, while savoury indicates earthy, non-fruit flavours like the cedar and smoky dankness described. After 19 years of ageing, the primary fruit flavours have integrated with oak and developed umami-like characteristics that make the wine more food-friendly and contemplative than youthful, fruit-forward styles.

This wine is drinking beautifully now, having reached full maturity with perfect integration of fruit, tannins, and oak. While well-stored bottles could continue developing for another 5-10 years, the description suggests it's at its peak drinking window. The 'complete wine' description indicates all elements are in harmony, making it ideal for immediate enjoyment rather than further cellaring.
